We still aren’t over Beyoncé bowl 🐝🏈

As the halftime performer of the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans NFL game, which was held in her hometown of Houston, Beyoncé performed songs from “Cowboy Carter,” her album and homage to country music.

In a Q&A interview, Howard University’s Pat Parks, assistant professor in the College of Fine Arts, explains Beyoncé’s reclamation of country music, the importance of her including other Black country artists, and Black people’s spiritual ties and roots to the genre.

"This (country music) is a whole ’nother aspect of who we are as Black people in this country, and a lot of it has spiritual ties and roots. A lot of it has ties to our ancestral DNA, and our ancestral experience. From the slave songs to the spirituals to gospel to blues to modern R&B, jazz and what we know as hillbilly music that's now country music, that line is drawn directly from slave music," said Parks.

A lot of people know about Kim Porter’s relationships with Al B Sure and Sean Combs. But her first real relationship was with super producer, Dallas Austin.

The 2002 movie 'Drumline' was inspired by Kim Porter and Dallas Austin. They grew up together in Columbus, Georgia.
