On the Boards New Play Fest: “A Rare Sight” + “Phoenix”
Friday, June 5, 7pm (6:30 doors)
The LAVA Center: 324 Main St, Greenfield

“A Rare Sight”
written by Jem O’Hara & directed by Lauren Stock
starring Kendra Corrie, Jim Merlin, Sandy Wang, Ryn Griffin

Strangers converge around a curiously abandoned landscaping truck while hiking in a state forest. How did it get there? Who would leave such a blemish on the landscape? Does anyone care?! The play explores the discomfort of being unable to do anything about glaring problems, the actions people take when put in these positions, and the abiding presence of the natural world.

“Phoenix”
written by Jan Maher & directed by Liam Castellan
and starring Kendra Corrie & Jim Merlin

ALAN and JESS, sorting old photographs after their mother’s funeral, discover they hold some vastly different memories of relatives and family events, particularly in regard to JOE MAC, a friend of their parents whom they have not seen since they were children. The photos stir long-forgotten memories in JESS; ALAN’s response to her story cause each of them to re-evaluate themselves and each other.

We are so grateful for every one of you who has come to our events over the years. Your support of local arts and humanities, and of our creative and educational offerings has made us a proud community hub. Your participation and financial support have fueled LAVA's success.

What most of you do not know is that LAVA may be forced lay off staff and even shut our doors. Grants once relied upon are no longer available.

LAVA's operating budget is $10,000 a month, only half of which is covered by grants and subrentals. Please consider a donation at this crucial time of need. Sustaining contributions are especially valued as they help us plan our programming with confidence.

And as always, please stop by to take in a show, share a story, or see our latest exhibit during gallery hours. We hope to see you soon! Thank you for your continued support.
