Blue and purple! I usually finish the student dulcimers with shellac, but these will be finished with polyurethane. I've been selected to participate in the Penrod Arts Fair in September, and I need to have some instruments that I can use disinfecting wipes on. Alcohol dissolves shellac, hence the need for a different finish. The colors look fun, and I'll be able to tell them apart from the others! The final decision for Penrod will be made August first, so we will have to wait until then!

I've been kinda busy lately working on a project for the Indiana State Fair, but now I'm back on dulcimer construction. This is a batch of seven hardwood models that are ready for a coat of finish. The one in the middle is some mahogany that was cut in the early seventies!

Here's what I've been working on lately. The first picture is seven hardwood mountain dulcimers that have been assembled and are getting close to being sprayed with lacquer. The second one is the front and back plates for a tenor ukulele that has been commissioned. It's some walnut that I picked up a while back, and it had writing on it that said it was cut in 1972.
