Three Grammy Awards. Over 1,100 commissioned works. Performances at Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Barbican in London. The Kronos Quartet has spent more than five decades redefining what a string quartet can be — and on June 16, they are coming to Ripon.
This is their first-ever appearance at the Green Lake Festival of Music, and it is not a coincidence. Three of the quartet's four members — Gabriela Díaz, Ayane Kozasa, and Paul Wiancko — have previously served on the faculty of the GLFM Chamber Music Institute. This concert is the culmination of a relationship that has been building for years.
Their program is as bold as you would expect: works by Jlin, Neil Young, Steve Reich, Raven Chacon, and others, spanning protest music, Indigenous voices, minimalism, and more. There is nothing else like it.
And it is completely free.
Tuesday, June 16 · Demmer Recital Hall, Rodman Center for the Arts, Ripon College · Open to the public
Pre-concert talk at 7:00 pm · Concert at 7:30 pm
