Michigan Volleyball Academy

Michigan Volleyball Academy Grand Rapids Michigan's Premier Volleyball Academy. Michigan Sports Academies was initially founded in July of 2007 as Michigan Volleyball Academy (MVA).

Our simple mission was to provide fundamental volleyball skill development during a 3 month club volleyball season (Mar – Jun). It quickly grew to a successful year round program, offering three or six months of National, Elite and Competitive AAU club training and play, as well as volleyball camps, clinics and private lessons to a growing group of athletes in the Grand Rapids area. MVA develops a

thletes and coaches by using a tier training program where collegiate level coaches write the practice plans for all teams helps to improve your athlete’s volleyball skills. While our mission continues to evolve, we still hold true to our fundamental approach to development and competition by training the individual first. Are you ready to join our team?

Experience matters.

For nearly 40 years, Coach Ted has been helping athletes across West Michigan grow not only as volleyball players, but as teammates, competitors, and confident young people.

At The Coast, development goes beyond skills alone. It’s about learning the game, competing with purpose, handling adversity, building confidence, and creating an environment where athletes are pushed to improve every single day.

With decades of coaching experience, a deep connection to the volleyball community, and exciting changes coming to the lakeshore, the future of The Coast is just getting started 🌊

Tryouts begin in July.

A huge part of development happens outside of the volleyball itself.

The energy, creativity, and intensity Tay brings to every session pushes our athletes to work harder, compete harder, and grow stronger every single day.

More than just conditioning — it’s leadership, relationships, and creating an environment where athletes want to be pushed to improve.

We’re lucky to have him! 🏐

What makes The Coast special is the people behind it.

Coaches who genuinely care. Athletes who want to grow. A community that believes in development both on and off the court.

For Coach Lauren, getting the opportunity to return to West Michigan and pour back into the same volleyball community she grew up in has been incredibly meaningful — and that passion shows up every day inside the gym.

At The Coast, athletes are supported, challenged, coached by multiple perspectives, and encouraged to grow not only as volleyball players, but as teammates and leaders.

Because confidence, leadership, and resilience matter just as much as the game itself 🌊

What makes The Shore special goes far beyond volleyball.

It’s the people. The relationships. The way athletes are cared for, challenged, and developed throughout every stage of the process.

For Coach Aaron, that connection is personal — not only as a coach, but as a parent who watched his own daughter grow through the MVA program from 14s through college volleyball.

At The Shore, development matters. High reps. Intentional training. Confidence built over time. A culture that pushes athletes to grow both mentally and physically while still loving the game along the way.

And we’re just getting started 🌊

High intensity. High reps. High standards.

A practice at The Shore is built around movement, competition, and development — creating an environment where athletes are constantly learning, competing, and growing.

It’s more than just touches on the ball.

It’s learning how to compete.
How to handle adversity.
How to develop confidence and mental toughness.

This is what training at The Shore looks like 🌊
