It has taken me a little while to find the words to make this post. How do you put into words a life, a friendship, and a man who meant so much to so many?
Today, we honor the founder of Social Saturday and co-founder of Belgiumfest — but Satch was so much more than those titles.
He was more than a brother. More than a friend. He was family.
Satch took care of people. He held you accountable when you needed it, but at the same time, he was usually the instigator stirring the pot. 😂 The fun. The laughter. The stories. Oh, the stories we could all tell!
He could dish it out, but he could take it right back. And if you ever ended up stuck with his bar tab, you weren’t alone. Eventually, we all caught on to his little trick of putting his Coors Lights on everyone else’s bill. Don’t worry, Satch — we learned, and we definitely returned the favor. 🍺
He had an incredible passion and respect for our veterans and for children. He gave and gave to people in need, often without expecting anything in return. He showed up. Whether it was supporting an event, helping someone who needed it, or making sure there was media coverage to bring attention to a good cause, Satch was there.
He frequented our local establishments where everybody knew his name — and more importantly, he knew theirs. He knew people. He remembered people. And he made people feel like they belonged.
Dori and Jenny, you may have called him Bob, but he called you his girls. He loved you both like a father loves his daughters, and he was so proud of you.
Jett, there was no hiding how proud he was of his grandson. Your intelligence and your talents never went unnoticed. He was proud to tell people about you.
And Cindy, you were his love. You brought joy back into his life, and he was so proud to be your husband. Anyone around him knew how much he loved you, and I know you loved him with all your heart.
Now Satch is with JFW and Kat.
Everyone knew the bond between Satch and his dearest friend, JFW. Those two were stuck together like glue. And when it came to Kat, Satch took care of her through better or worse. He put her first because that’s simply what Satch did for the people he loved.
There will never be another Satch.
Social Saturday won’t quite be the same. Our local watering holes might sell a few less Coors Lights. There may be a little less pot stirring and a few fewer unexpected drinks appearing on someone else’s tab.
But the stories will continue.
The laughter will continue.
And every time friends gather together, support a veteran, help a child, give to someone in need, stir the pot just a little, or sneak a Coors Light onto somebody else’s tab, a little piece of Satch will still be right there with us.
Rest easy, Satch. Give JFW and Kat a hug from all of us.
You were loved. You were family. And you will never be forgotten. ❤️
