The Active Joe

The Active Joe The Active Joe is about providing fun, friendly, & affordable opportunities for people to get active!

I'm Libby Jones, The Active Joe's Founding "Joe", and owner. I'm a mom, a runner, and a race director, whose days are busy balancing all of these things while celebrating getting active and helping others do the same! I'm a back-of-the-pack runner, and consider myself just "an average joe" who is working hard to get active, thus... The Active Joe!

This is what it looks like to invest in the community.
The Active Joe is helping fund park improvements at Dinosaur Valley State Park, which will make it easier for runners to move through race weekend.

This year, athletes, crews, and spectators can all walk directly to the start line from the event parking lot! No shuttle. No extra logistics. Just a better experience from the moment you wake up.

We’re here to build something that lasts: for runners, and for the places we run.
πŸ‘‰ Join us at Dino Valley.

Our charitable partnership with Dinosaur Valley State Park continues to make a real impact. We recently funded improvements to the event field: a wider two‑way gate and fresh gravel to keep the area usable even after rain. We’re proud that our support helps the park welcome even more community events, not just our own.

It's Western State Training Camp Weekend... SORTA! While it is held each year over Memorial Day in California, sometimes it needs to be a little closer to home... and on a different holiday. Our sponsored athlete Stuart Chutter is in Saskatchewan, Canada, and made his 3 day "training camp" to coincide with Canada's May holiday of Victoria Day on May 18, while enjoying the ranch land that is so important to him as a farmer and his community. In the middle of Day 1, Stuart explains his customized weekend training plan, starting it off with the Reesor 50 Mile !

For over a decade, we have worked to help put athletes on the starting line at Western States 100 who otherwise might not have had the opportunity to be there.

Not because it’s easy.
But because this sport changes people, and more people deserve access to those moments.

Over the years, that commitment has helped support athletes from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, all of whom are committed to helping others with a variety of causes from environmentalism to gender equity and LGBTQ2SIA+ rights.

Western States is iconic because of the course and history. But it’s also special because of the people willing to open doors and bring others with them.

As this year’s race approaches, we’re feeling grateful for every runner, crew member, volunteer, and supporter who continues to help make that possible πŸ’›

Always on the forefront of race timing technology, The Active Joe has been using chips attached to the backside of your bib for over 15 years now, allowing us to always present live race tracking and results for you and your friends and family to follow along. This includes multiple on-course timing spots, with the highlight being that Dinosaur Valley Endurance Run has 29 timing checkpoints in the 100-miler! For crews and pacers, and also spectators waiting at the finish line with balloons and signs, this is just another way we elevate your race experience!

The Active Joe's sponsored athlete for Western States, Stuart Chutter, is living the motto "gotta train how you'll race!" When you live somewhere flat, you have to seek out those hills when training for a mountain race. Keep following his journey. Race day is less than 6 weeks out!
