SPOTLIGHT // COLLOBOH

Colloboh ( ) is Collins Oboh, born in Nigeria, based in Los Angeles, making some of the most ambitious modular synthesizer music in the current field.

Self-taught, Oboh has toured alongside Suzanne Ciani, Beach House, Richie Hawtin, and Kim Gordon. His EPs Entity Relation (2021) and Saana Sahel (2023) show a composer who uses the synthesizer as a sonic canvas: progressive, experimental, committed to intuition over formula.

Earthling’s outdoor listening party is built on this: a bring-your-own-blanket, free plus donation gathering for sound and nature lovers. On May 30, Earthling and AYLI bring the Spring 2026 Unabridged Open Air to Elk Glen Meadow in Golden Gate Park.

Colloboh plays the meadow at 1:30, carrying the afternoon toward its final hour.

SPOTLIGHT // MATTHEWDAVID

Matthew David “MD” McQueen ( ) runs the LA all-genre continuum Leaving Records. Beatmaker, New Age Ambient v2.0 sound designer, activist, community facilitator. In 2018 he founded the still-ongoing daytime concert series Listen to Music Outside in the Daylight Under a Tree, which is more or less the spirit Earthling carries.

A luminary of the LA Beat Scene, he spent years inside the rich and often-derided archive of New Age sound, stewarding a New New Age sensibility into being. Digital meets organic. Earthen meets aethereal. Bloom and rot in the same breath. For Earthling, an impressionistic live suite featuring special guest Cole Pulice on saxophone. He plays Elk Glen at 12:45.

SPOTLIGHT // COOL MARITIME

is the sonic universe of Santa Cruz-raised musician and filmmaker Sean Hellfritsch. The name says most of it: tides, winds, shifting light, translated into sound.

His releases on Western Vinyl and Leaving Records draw from a life spent near the ocean: lush, breathing arrangements that ebb and flow the way currents do. Technically electronic, entirely organic. There is joy in the work, and something that sounds like deep belonging to a specific coastal geography.

SMARTBOMB stands as one of Oakland’s most vital cultural engines, a curatorial project and multimedia platform rooted in community, experimentation, and fearless creative expression. Since 2013, the collective has consistently championed boundary-pushing artists across disciplines, from music and visual art to film and performance, creating space for voices that challenge convention and expand the landscape of contemporary culture. Building the Detroit scene can be described as a brick-by-brick process. You can think of the Detroit underground as a historic cathedral; while the city’s pioneers laid the grand foundation, it is the custodial artists who have spent the last two decades meticulously restoring the stained glass and maintaining the structure so that the music can continue to resonate with integrity through its halls. In this interview, we trace Dan Bain and Mister Joshooa‘s influence and their evolution from the late 90s underground to their roles as modern caretakers of the Detroit scene.
