Our second “Glenside’s Best Baker 2026” winner is Ed Boyd! 🤩🍊

Ed has been a Glenside resident since 2015, and an Abington resident since 1995. He’s a Cardinal Dougherty graduate, and grew up in Olney after moving to Philly from Central Florida in 1979.

GGPA: Ed, what did you bake for the bake sale/competition?

Ed: My southern grandmother's Orange Rolls were my entry in the competition. They were a staple at her home for every family dinner. They are more of a sweet twist on the traditional dinner roll than a dessert, although a sweet glaze on top would turn them into a fine dessert as well.

GGPA: Can you share a favorite baking-related memory?

Ed: The first time I made the Orange rolls it was purely from memory since my grandmother had passed away before I had the recipe. But during a family reunion in Orlando a few years ago, my aunts - who had grown up on the rolls - were able to sample my version for rhe first time. These ultimate judges raved about them, one saying, "don't tell anyone, but they may be better than mama's". I knew then I was on to something special.

Later, while I was driving home from Orlando, my stepmother found and sent me my grandmother's recipe. It was practically identical to my creation. Obviously, she was guiding me the whole time.

GGPA: What’s your all-time favorite dessert flavor?

Ed: My favorite dessert flavor is caramel. I put it on ice cream, in my coffee, and drizzled on apple pie.

My favorite dessert would have to be key lime pie with a graham cracker crust. It's a Florida native thing.

GGPA: What do you think is the quintessential July 4th dessert?

Ed: Easy, apple pie.

GGPA: What is your favorite dessert to make?

Ed: Pecan cheesecake. It pairs well with a nice latte.

GGPA: Do you have any desserts in mind that you’d like to bake for the next bake sale/competition?

Ed: For the next competition, I may try Lobster tails, the pastry.

It’s time to spotlight our TWO winners of “Glenside’s Best Baker 2026”!

Our first winner is Jessica Tam. 🤩🧁 Please see below for a sweet Q&A!

GGPA: Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

J: My name is Jessica and I’m originally from NYC. Making cakes is my passion. I love to create custom cakes because of all the details that people hold dear. My instagram handle is . I believe that happiness comes from helping others and by sharing and I do that by creating cakes for under privileged kids in organizations like For Goodness Cakes.

GGPA: What did you bake for this year’s bake sale/competition?

J: For the competition/ bake sale, it was hard for me to pick one thing to make. Ultimately, I made something that embodies life as a whole. I made cookies & cream cupcakes with cookie butter buttercream finished with coffee tuile and 24k edible golf leaf. The cookies & cream cupcake represents the core memories we make as children. The coffee tuile with gold leaf represents how hard we work to provide for ourselves and our families. The cookie butter buttercream represents the nostalgia, the memories and warmth we carry to pass on through stories to our kids, our grandchildren and our great grandchildren.

GGPA: What’s your all-time favorite dessert flavor?

J: My all time favorite dessert flavor is almond! I love the versatility in it. Using it toasted and sliced can give a great texture to desserts. Using almond extract can elevate a dessert. I love the taste and texture of marzipan which is ground almonds and sugar.

GGPA: Can you share a favorite baking-related memory?

J: My favorite baking related memory is actually not baking related but it is a memory that jump started my baking career. I used to work for Godiva as a sales associate and in each store, there was a chocolatier that would make chocolate covered treats in the window. I was given the opportunity to become a chocolatier because of my knowledge in chocolate. I was always a shy person but something about teaching people about chocolate broke me out of my shell. We worked on the busiest street of Fifth Avenue in NYC, bustling with tourists. I was always a shy person but something about teaching people about chocolate broke me out of my shell. I knew then that was the path I wanted in life— to share little joys through dessert.

GGPA: What are your favorite desserts to make?

J: Custom cakes are my favorite desserts to make. I love working with people to create one of a kind, personal works of art. I’ve learned a lot of random facts just by researching things that people enjoy but I also get to learn a lot about people from all walks of life.

GGPA: What do you think is the quintessential July 4th dessert?

J: I think the quintessential July 4th dessert needs to be red, white and blue. I have so many memories growing up of everyone dressed up in red, white and blue to show how patriotic they are and desserts should be no different!

GGPA: Do you have any dessert ideas in mind you’d like to make for the next bake sale/competition?

J: I would love to compete again and have the opportunity to share my passion with others. I don’t have any ideas of what I would make yet but I’ve spoken to the judges on any feedback and what I could have improved on and will definitely be taking that advice for next year!
