The Listening Room at 1893 is something that happened without really trying. But what it has become has not been without so much effort.
I’ve been trying to figure this thing out as I go—building it stick by stick, often not even knowing what I don’t know. Every singer-songwriter who has walked through these doors has taught me something. And so have a few who have never even seen this room.
Support has shown up in all kinds of ways. I’d bore you if I named every person who has lent an ear, answered a question, bought a ticket when they weren’t quite sure what they were buying, shared a post, offered advice, or simply believed in this when my own belief felt a little weak.
But especially after last night, there are a few people I need to thank.
Jen—my music-loving-graphic-designing-photo-taking-website-building-IT-troubleshooting-dream-believing-right-hand human. I’m not sure where I’d be without you. I just know none of this would be nearly as pretty.
Clay of Old West Americana—I still don’t know how you discovered this little room in Eastern Montana, but I’m sure glad you did. Your immediate support, selfless mentoring, encouragement, and willingness to share what you know has been an unbelievable gift from someone who owed me absolutely nothing. I know for certain that without you, Logan Mac would not have been in The House last night. I won’t forget that.
Casey—Logan told me last night, “Whatever you do, keep that guy around.” I intend to. You stepped in with a smile and this steady, easy support, taking care of the things nobody sees but everyone hears. I know I have so much to learn from you, and I’m grateful you’re willing to be part of this.
I’m still figuring it out. Still learning. Still building it stick by stick.
But having this crew in my corner makes it all feel possible.
And after a night like last night, I’m pretty damn glad we keep opening the doors.
