There are a lot of talented young HVAC technicians who know exactly what their customer needs — but sometimes hesitate to communicate the solution because they don’t want to come across as a pushy salesperson.

In this clip, Cody Novini shares an important perspective on the balance between serving the customer honestly while also having the confidence to recommend the right solution.

Strong communication and professionalism are just as important as technical skill in today’s HVAC industry.

❌ HVAC Myths vs Facts ✅

There’s a lot of misinformation in the HVAC space that can lead to poor system performance and costly mistakes. Here are two common myths every contractor and technician should be aware of:

Myth: A bigger AC system will cool better
Fact: An oversized system will often short cycle, which reduces efficiency, increases wear and tear, and can create uneven comfort in the space. Proper system sizing is critical for performance and longevity.

Myth: Heat pumps don’t work in cold weather
Fact: Modern heat pumps are specifically designed to operate efficiently in low temperatures, making them a viable solution in a wide range of climates.

Understanding these fundamentals helps ensure better system design, improved efficiency, and higher customer satisfaction.

⚡ Contactor Explained: A Key Component in HVAC Systems
The contactor plays a critical role in controlling power within an HVAC system. When the thermostat calls for heating or cooling, the contactor closes to allow high voltage electricity to flow to major components such as the compressor and fan motor. When the demand is satisfied, it opens and shuts the system back off.
Although it is a relatively simple component, the contactor is essential for proper system operation. If it fails, the system will not run—even if other parts are functioning correctly.
Understanding how components like the contactor work is an important part of accurate HVAC diagnostics and effective troubleshooting.

🔧 Technicians: Check These 3 Things First

Before diving into deeper diagnostics, it’s important to start with the fundamentals:

🌬 Airflow – Is the system moving air properly?
⚡ Electrical – Is power getting where it needs to go?
⚙️ System Operation – Is the equipment running as it should?

Skipping these basic checks can lead to missed issues, unnecessary part replacements, and wasted time in the field. A strong diagnostic process always starts with the fundamentals.

Start here—then go deeper.

💡 HVAC Tip of the Week: Low Airflow Can Cause Major System Problems

Low airflow is one of the most common issues in HVAC systems, and it can lead to several serious problems if left unchecked. When airflow is restricted, the system has to work harder than it should, which can result in:

❄️ Frozen evaporator coils
⚡ Higher energy bills
⚠️ Potential compressor damage

Proper airflow is essential for system efficiency, performance, and equipment longevity. Ensuring filters, ducts, and vents are clear and functioning properly can help prevent costly repairs and keep systems operating as intended.
