The high country is opening up! The middle ten miles is more or less snow free (Geneva Creek to Guanella Pass and back) if you want to get out on the course this weekend. I expect the section between Geneva Creek and Red Cone to take another week or two. These parts are easily accessed though and give a great taste of the course. Enjoy!

Where does the Divide 100 rank in difficulty? I tend to not like those lists magazines put out every year, but as a new race, there's no one to ask about difficulty!

I've been on most of the mountain 100 course in the US in some fashion, and I would the Divide is definitely harder/slower than the Bear, Grindstone, High Lonesome, or Bighorn, but definitely faster and easier than Hardrock and maybe Ouray (I've only been on the bits of that course that overlap Hardrock).

We've got the altitude and we've got the climbs to challenge you, but nowhere competes with the remoteness of the Hardrock course.

Updates! I know there's some hesitancy in planning for races wondering they'll even happen.

The Divide 100 operates under permit of 3 USFS districts, 2 counties and 2 different towns. Currently, our USFS permits are approved and our Summit County permits are set as well. Clear Creek County and Georgetown's permits are intertwined, and on a different timeline. As the application is basically the same as the other governing bodies, I am not concerned about approval, but that is where we stand as of today. Permitting a new event in the COVID era is a bear.

We look forward to seeing you all in August though!

Given UTMB's new apparent "pay to play" model with Ironman, we will not be applying to be a UTMB qualifying race this year or likely moving forward. Given UTMB's popularity, we had conceded the points system previously for our 100k but have little desire to support the Ironman corporation (which has a long history of predatory and pay-to-play practices).

If you'd like to see how much "Americans do not understand trail running", come run our race. 🙃

The Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc Group adds Tarawera in New Zealand and Ultra-Trail Australia to its list and are looking for races in North America.

Big Changes for 2021 and beyond!

We have changed the 100k to a 100 mile out-and-back, eliminating the 10 miles of road from the course and the night start. This way, more people get to see more of this beautiful area in the daylight.

Registration is open at Ultrasignup. Our USFS permit is set, but we are finalizing local permits (everything is very understandably behind this year), so no credit cards will be charged for entering until after those are confirmed.

We'll see you in August!

Some housekeeping:

The Divide 100k is still on! I've been getting questions about this the past couple weeks, but yes we do still plan to run, as we anticipate our late August date to allow plenty of time to adhere to whatever the disease-protection guidelines are at that time.

Given the current climate with lots of races being cancelled, others barely existing (no finish line acitivites, no crew, etc), compounded with the fact that we really cannot offer refunds, we will keep registration open well into July to give as much time as we can for people to sign up while still being able to obtain the supplies we need for each runner.

An email went out through Ultrasignup to parcipants and people watching the event on there--if you are interested in updates through the summer, I suggest signing up to "watch" the event.

If you have previously submitted an application for the Divide 100k, they will be reviewed in the coming week and accepted (or denied) on March 25.

From here on however, we do plan to shift to a more standard entry process, to close on June 24, 2020. We are aware that this is a bit strange of a sequence of registration, but we have set things up as such to provide the best ability for our racers to plan while staying in the confines of our permits with the USFS, county, and town.

Stay healthy, and see you in August.

We had several new applicants over the weekend. Looking forward to seeing you all in August!
