The Genoa Courthouse Museum is a treasure .... and this Saturday, April 25, that treasure is available for FREE as part of the Genoa Western Heritage Days Saturday festival.

Come meet members of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and learn about their rich culture. Hungry? There will be an Indian taco truck on the premises.

HUGE thanks to the Douglas County Historical Society for all they do year-round to preserve and promote the history of Genoa, and to the Friends of Genoa for covering museum admission costs for the day.

Celebrate the call of the West!

In the late 1800s, cowboys would entertain each other during long cattle drives by creating poetry. Today, Cowboy Poets are celebrated for their storytelling ability to evoke those long ago days and traditions. Handsome horse Vegas was ready for his close-up early this morning with Jayde Ryan of KOLO 8 News Now. Catch Vegas and 85 other stunning equines at 2 pm this Saturday in the Genoa Western Heritage Days horse parade. Remember Jack’s Valley Road will be closed from 130 until 3 PM for the parade. Announcing the 2026 Genoa Western Heritage Days Horse Parade lineup! What started just four years ago with 25 horses, 2 wagons, and a wonderful group of horsemen and horsewomen has grown into something truly extraordinary. This year on Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m., we will be welcoming OVER 85 HORSES and 6 WAGONS to the historic streets of Genoa!! 🤠🐎✨

Cheers to organizer Krissie Haliwell for creating this wonderful event filled with the spirit, tradition, and pride of the West!

Please note that Jacks Valley Road/Main Street will be closed between the Genoa Cemetery and Carson Street from 1:30-3 p.m. for the Horse Parade, with no detours or side street access.

The Horse Parade is part of a day full of free activities, including live music, kids games, historic reenactments, unique Western vendors and fine art.
