Rocky Mountain Star Stare Rocky Mountain Star Stare is Colorado's premier Star Party; join us June 10 - 14, 2026! For over three decades, 300+ astronomy lovers from across the U.S.

Plan ahead now and set aside some of those summer vacation days, as the big event this year is being held from Wednsday June 25th through Sunday June 29th, 2025! and around the world have gathered each summer to enjoy the exceptional dark skies of the Colorado Mountains; these gazers of the stars were enjoying Rocky Mountain Star Stare. We cordially invite you to join us at this year’s event. If y

ou happen to live in a hot/humid location, attending RMSS will provide a very enjoyable respite along with the extraordinary dark sky viewing RMSS is renowned for. Held on 35 spectacular acres of land located just north of Gardner, Colorado, in a valley between the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountain ranges, and owned by the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society, this is our own “Starry Meadows”. The property includes shady stands of pinion pine trees nestled amongst wide-open fields for horizon-to-horizon viewing. Incredible fields of stars by night are supplemented with dramatic mountain daytime views, activities and fun for everyone. We will have a number of fascinating presentations from world-class speakers, workshops on various topics of interest, many chlidren's activities (we love having kids attend!), photography contest, Amateur Telescope Makers competition, door prizes, a major raffle prize, and of course to top it all off, superb nighttime viewing. This month our guest speaker will be Scott Donnell with his presentation, "Amateur Astronomical Spectroscopy and its Contribution to Science.” Come learn the many ways and venues through which amateur astronomers are contributing to the science of astronomy.

This month our guest speaker will be Bruce Bookout. His presentation is entitled "The Pleiades: The Seven Daughters of Pleione". Bruce will cover a vast number of the "stories" of the Pleiades from all around the world including Greek mythology and the perception/meaning of the asterism by those cultures.

The Colorado Springs Astronomical Society is pleased to announce that 2026 REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN at https://rmss.org/ for Rocky Mountain Star Stare (RMSS) 2026! Plan ahead now and set aside some of those summer vacation days, as the big event is being held this year from Wednesday June 10th through Sunday June 14th, 2026.

Our 2026 theme "Unveil the Veil" was chosen from several suggestions, and this year's artwork was created by Gwen Sauer!

Keep in mind that registration will close once we reach capacity (which we have done over the last 4 years). If registrations have not been filled by May 4, rates will go up approximately 30% and will officially close on May 10th.

Join the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society for our January meeting TONIGHT, Tuesday, January 27th, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM MST at the Space Foundation Discovery Center. If you cannot join in person, you can still participate online using the link below.

This month features our annual “Show and Tele” event. Following the business meeting, attendees are invited to present items or topics of interest to the membership. Presentations may include new telescopes or equipment, software reviews, astrophotography, or other astronomy-related subjects. In past events, participants have shared valuable insights on tools such as solar scopes, innovative mounts, and advanced computerized telescopes. Presentations have also included inspiring contributions from younger members showcasing their early achievements in this exciting hobby.
