Check ‘em out!
👋🏼Hey there, BBQ lovers!
We’ve noticed a lot of new faces around here lately, so we thought it was the perfect time to reintroduce ourselves.
We’re Andrew and Arica Valona, the husband-and-wife team behind Blue Smoke Craft Barbecue, now proudly serving Star, ID and the Treasure Valley.
Prior to moving to Idaho, we knew Andrew had to make the difficult decision to pivot in his career. For over 30 years, he worked as a painting contractor in both the residential and commercial sectors. Together, we ran a successful small painting company for more than 11 years. But in December 2020, our world changed forever. Our beloved daughter Jordyn passed away due to complications from a rare bone disease and epilepsy. Just two days after laying her to rest, Andrew underwent what was supposed to be a routine back surgery. When he woke up, he couldn’t feel his legs. After another surgery and weeks of recovery and rehabilitation, Andrew had to relearn how to walk—and also had to face the reality of his future in the coatings industry. It was during that time of reflection and healing that we made the decision to close our painting business and pursue barbecue full time.
Our BBQ journey actually started years earlier, back in the early 2000s, when Andrew began honing his skills in our backyard, smoking meats for friends and family. Eventually, we started sharing our food at local charity events like Swing for a Soldier in Gig Harbor, WA. Andrew even competed in a couple of bbq competitions. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many people asking us, “Where’s your restaurant?”
That’s when Blue Smoke Craft Barbecue was officially born. We began with pop-ups and catering in the Gig Harbor area, and now we’re proud to serve the Treasure Valley here in Idaho.
Our mission is simple: serve up authentic, flavorful barbecue with scratch-made traditional sides, all infused with the Valona family’s personal touch and commitment to quality. What started as a hobby has grown into a calling—and a way to honor Jordyn’s memory through community, connection, and comfort food.❤️
Thanks for following along and supporting our journey. We’re just getting started. 🙌🏼
