Another milestone reached towards our Galveston 250 voyage! Ryan Bradfield, Director of our Galveston Historic Seaport, proudly shows off ELISSA's Certificate of Inspection from the United States Coast Guard. The COI is a thorough and comprehensive vessel evaluation conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard. This is a critical step towards our upcoming voyage.

The next week has more work and final preparations to complete before our departure, tentatively moved to Memorial Day. We will provide more updates as we finalize the details. These last steps do require us to shift our first two port stops of Pensacola and Savannah, which will see us visit those locations in late July and early August.

For those looking for a sneak peek of the ship under sail, we'll be making a Seawall sail today with arrival near the Pleasure Pier around 1:30!

Along with the rest of the world, we've been watching NASA Artemis II's voyage around the moon. The roots of space exploration are tied deeply to those of sailing. Our Galveston Historic Seaport : Home of the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa has enjoyed a long partnership with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration over the years, hosting astronauts, engineers, and more as they learn maritime skills that translate to their work well beyond our waters. Galveston's own Christina Koch, as well as Catherine "Cady" Coleman, who graciously took a piece of ELISSA with her to the International Space Station during her time there in 2011, have spent time onboard the Official Tall Ship of Texas. Cheers to Koch and all of the crew on their return to Earth. We're ready to welcome them on board our ship any time.

2026 is a milestone year for the Official Tall Ship of Texas. The 1877 ELISSA has moved out of the Galveston Historic Seaport to prepare for drydock. She goes out of the water two times in a five-year cycle as part of her requirements to be permitted to sail. These drydock stages are crucial for us to inspect, repair, and prepare, but when we're looking at something as significant as Sail4th 250 and a summer of stops along the East Coast, it's even more important.

While ELISSA is away, our pricing will shift for seaport entry, including Ship To Shore. We continue to offer our Galveston Historic Harbor Tours on SEAGULL II and look forward to a few surprises this summer as we continue to share Galveston's maritime history here and abroad.
