Paul Sampson of Oyster River Joinery is a Maine artisan with decades of woodworking experience. He handcrafts his oyster wooden platters and bowls one at a time. Paul handpicks each board for a platter, looking for unique characteristics and details. He shapes and carves to accentuate the natural beauty inherent in the wood. Every platter will vary in color and carving. Paul, a true lover of seafood, quickly discovered the fragility of china and glass while dining among the elements. He decided to design a platter that he could use in the wild, whether on the sea or in the woods. From here, the oyster platter, Paul’s first vision, came to life. The oyster platter’s shape echoes that of an oyster shell. Carved indentations hold each oyster securely. Soon after the oyster platter, he created the oyster bowl. All platters are treated with a food-safe finish. Get all the details, pre order tasting tix, and reserve your festival merch at themaineoysterfestival.com

Barters Island Bees, Inc is an apiary on Barters Island in Boothbay, ME. They raise bees and sell honey just across the river from the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, so they may just have the best fed bees in Maine! They sell raw, all natural honey and a hot honey called Bee Stinger. Their specialty is a line of creamed honey called Maine Mousse. Maine Mousse is 100% honey that has been slowly stirred to a thick, creamy texture. It is available in pure honey or Honey Butter and in 5 organic fruit and spice flavors, including Orange Cranberry, Blueberry Lemon, Ceylon Cinnamon, Gentle Ginger, and seasonal Pumpkin Spice. Honey is a fun addition to mignonette and can also be used in roasted oyster recipes especially when paired with spice. Tapley Cove Oyster Company is making the trek to the Festival all the way from Brooksville on Saturday only! This oyster will be the furthest north on the Festival menu this year. Known for their clean ocean salinity, Tapley Cove Oysters are balanced by a subtle sweetness and a crisp, refreshing finish. It takes a village! A festival doesn't just happen. Every year it's a labor of love for the Visit Freeport staff, local business owners, community volunteers, as well as the industry members who have been so generous with their time and expertise. Now we need your help too! From ticket sellers to hosting the shucking contest to restocking farms & shuckers with ice, plus set-up and clean-up and everything in between. When you volunteer at The Maine Oyster Festival you are supporting Maine's aquaculture industry, supporting Freeport's business & tourism community, and most importantly spreading some joy! If you volunteer for a shift, we'll even give you a gift - tickets for the first couple of shucks on us or your choice of a shirt, OG trucker hat, poster, tote bag or tea towel! Spinney Creek Shellfish is a 3rd-generation, family-owned company located in Eliot. Their farm is the furthest south of all the farms on the Festival menu! You can see it (and wave hello!) as you drive over the I-95 bridge into Maine. They have been growing oysters on Spinney Creek in Eliot/Kittery since 2015, but their roots in clams and oysters go back to 1982. Their shellfish are purged and purified in sterile flowing seawater to remove sand and grit then tested in an in-house NSSP qualified laboratory. Spinney Creek will be shucking on both days of the Festival and they also plan to offer their steamer clams too. One of the official Festival condiments is Kimchi Juice from Kimchi Beyond Compare LLC. You'll find it at all the condiment stations at the Festival. Daeun moved to Maine back in 2013 leaving her home country of South Korea. After her move, she missed her mom and aunt's kimchi and, unfortunately, all kimchi products in the US market never really satisfied her. With the help of her mother and aunt along with imported South Korean pepper powder, Daeun used her food engineering bachelor’s degree to create her own recipe and business here in Maine. She now makes several varieties of kimchi (including blueberry!), along with kimchi juice and gochujang powder.
