We want to thank EVERYONE that registered, volunteered, sponsored, and supported the AK8K this year. We had a 75% participation rate despite the cold and even snow (what?!). Our overall winners were Cody Clark with a time of 35:32, and Jamie-Jo Rytlewski at 36:58. We raised over $3000 and had a blast. The raffles and 50/50 were a good time, and participants loved their awards, pizza, cupcakes, Dr Pepper, brownies, warm fire, Zombies, super fan students, and more. Kellen and Nick played live music for us right up to the start, then Kellen ran the race 🙂 Dr Pepper was voted best aid station by the participants. Everyone was so amazingly helpful, fun, and supportive. Next year will be warmer. I promise!

Check out this year’s photo gallery and results. Enjoy 🙂

Be Awesome...

Awesome April Kade was a RUNNER. The wife, the mother, the daycare owner. She was boisterous and joyful. She was loud and proud, and she was my best friend. She was taken from us unexpectedly in September, 2018. April taught so many of us how to run happy, and we’d like to share that uplifting, soul hugging experience through the April Kade 8K on April 10, 2021! The race is from 10am - 12pm with a Virtual Option. All participants will receive a shirt, medal, bib, and something extra in their packet, depending on your level of registration. Participants more than 100 miles away may choose to have their packet mailed free of charge. Below is information for the 2021 race. Thank you for considering this amazing opportunity!

...

There will be 200+ participants with no cap walking and running the race, along with numerous friends, family members and volunteers at the start and aid stations. This is an Out-And-Back 8K, sanctioned by the USATF, starting from the Freeland Sports Zone in Freeland MI. Walkers and runners will enjoy starting on the newly paved trail with porta-potty's, refreshments, and abundant high- fives. Enjoyable decorations will be along the way, and aid stations will be available every half mile-ish with many of April's favorite foods, drinks, and other surprises.

This race is an 8K because April considered a 5K a warm-up for races. She encouraged all people to run a far as they could, even if it was to the mailbox. However, she did not enjoy the 5K distance for races, and so we honor that.
