Senior Dominic Townsend has been awarded First Prize ($10,000) in Opera Grand Rapids’ 2026 VanderLaan Voice Competition—an honor that recognizes not only his talent, but years of dedication to his craft.

During his time at Fredonia, Dominic has performed leading roles across campus and regional stages, building a strong foundation through mentorship and performance opportunities. Now, he’s taking that next step—heading to The Juilliard School this fall as a Kovner Fellow, one of the most competitive, full-scholarship programs for emerging artists.

“The amount of gratitude I have… is truly life changing,” Dominic shared.

We’re proud to have been part of his journey—and excited to see where it takes him next.
