Members of the Chamber Board of Directors recently traveled to Washington, DC to meet with leaders at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and on Capitol Hill, reinforcing the importance of regional representation in federal policy discussions.
At the U.S. Chamber, board members received updates on national efforts to support businesses, including federal advocacy priorities and the role of state and local chambers in shaping policy. Discussions covered artificial intelligence, streamlining permitting to support economic growth, infrastructure, supply chains, the current small business landscape, and emerging tax law opportunities.
On Capitol Hill, the board met with Senator Tim Kaine, Representative Eugene Vindman, and Senator Mark Warner’s staff. Key priorities highlighted included regional transportation and infrastructure improvements, workforce development, support for military installations, and Virginia’s Right to Work status. The group also addressed concerns around increasing energy demand and shared updates on the proposed medical school partnership between the University of Mary Washington and Mary Washington Healthcare.
The visit underscored the value of direct engagement with federal leaders to ensure the region’s priorities are represented at the national level.
