The Grateful String Band In a world full of Grateful Dead tribute bands, it takes a certain level of respect to coax the music into new exciting genres & stand out from the crowd. With a catalog full of Dead favorites originals as well as covers that the Grateful Dead performed, The Grateful String Band dedicates its bluegrass prowess to anything dead related.
Any music the Grateful Dead performed is what TGSB explores and we perform it with our unique bluegrass spin. But The Grateful Dead is simply a starting point for what this band is capable of. With so many more options from the Pigpen days, as well as spinoff projects like Old & In The Way and Jerry Garcia Band, TGSB is your one stop shop for your Deadgrass fix!

Rooted in tradition but fueled by improvisation, The Grateful String Band captures the spirit of exploration that defined the Dead while grounding it in the driving rhythms and acoustic precision of bluegrass. Their performances are both reverent and inventive, honoring the songwriting while adding new life through intricate picking and heartfelt delivery.

Fronted by powerhouse mandolinist and vocalist Nick Dumas, Nick Dumas Music and Branchline represent the driving edge of modern bluegrass while staying deeply rooted in tradition. A former member of Special Consensus and an award-winning instrumentalist, Dumas brings blazing mandolin work, crisp vocals, and a songwriter’s heart to every stage he steps on.
Branchline blends tight harmonies, high-energy picking, and thoughtful original material with the kind of chemistry you can only get from a road-tested band. Their sound is polished yet raw in all the right places, equal parts hard-driving festival set and intimate front-porch storytelling.
Whether delivering a fiery instrumental breakdown or a harmony-rich ballad, Nick Dumas & Branchline bring authenticity, musicianship, and momentum that bluegrass fans instantly recognize, and newcomers quickly fall in love with.
