🌺So, we posted a commissioned promo poster on Friday announcing the Charles Phoenix presentation and were met with a slew of comments slamming the image as "AI". Some comments were rather targeted and full of vitriol, so they were removed. Regardless, we felt the need to state that the poster was not done in a.i.
From the digital illustrator this morning: "This was a basic overlay of multiple photos from the Hukilau archives submitted as well as the Huki logo that has been used for years (specifically oversaturated and posterized) set with some tree clipart and basic shapes. Fonts were a varied mix and included Futura Extra Bold Condensed, Impact Regular, Arial Bold and others. Very standard practical peppering tools and aged font scripts from an array of purchased vintage packages were used as rasterized images adjusted with posterizing, saturation adjustments, stroke elements, warping, distressing and added noise to create a throwback look. This was all done with direct intent, purpose and NOT lazily created with generative 'a.i.' Please review the included screenshots of the over fifty layers and my PhotoShop workflow."
🌴The Hukilau has always been a show that employs and values artists with a range of talents and styles hired for mugs, glassware, promo art, banners, apparel and more... and we will remain that show. While we appreciate the feedback from those who are actively hunting a.i. in all directions and making sure to discourage its use, we can assure you that we are quite true to our audience and our brand. We will continue the long-running tradition of a show that delivers top-notch guest speakers, bars, bands, vendors, room parties and beautiful vistas in tropical environments - regardless of the added noise some choose to bring to that canvas.
🤙We appreciate all of our Ohana (even the snippy ones) and look forward to seeing several hundred friendly and happy Villagers in June for the original Florida Tropical Tiki Weekender. ⛱️ Make sure to come see one of the best presenters in all of Tiki - Charles Phoenix!
