One of the special pieces on display at Logger Fest this weekend is a letter from the Ashland Logging Museum sharing the history and mission behind preserving Northern Maine’s logging heritage.

The museum was founded in 1964 by local citizens dedicated to preserving logging history through artifacts, photographs, equipment, and education. Their collection includes everything from antiques and ephemera to a replica 1880s logging camp and working blacksmith shop.

We’re honored to have items from the museum on display during Logger Fest and grateful for their continued connection to the Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Races and our Northern Maine heritage.

Be sure to stop by, take a look through the historical displays, and enjoy all the festivities happening throughout the weekend!

We are so grateful to everyone who made this display possible for Logger Fest. The Ashland Logging Museum and Portage Lake Historical Society brought incredible artifacts and photographs, including a stunning collection of images by Ashland photographer Maxie Morin captured over a century ago.

Additionally Sarah Brooks and Guy are running a live blacksmith demonstration. A great demonstration of just how much skill kept a logging camp alive.

Come find us at the Can-Am Crown heritage booth now through Sunday. Trophies, wagons, crosscut saws, historic photos, and yes, sled dog race information too. Because up here, the trails through the North Woods connect all of it. 🐕‍🦺

You can find us right in front of the Lonesome Pine Trails Ski lodge

The Can-Am Crown will have a booth at Loggerfest in Aroostook County this year, and we're looking forward to celebrating the rich logging history of Northern Maine.

Along with information about the race, we'll have a small display of historic logging artifacts, including this restored Watson Bottom Dump Wagon, the kind used in the early 1900s during the Allagash lumber operations that helped define this part of Maine. We're proud to have knowledgeable people on hand to share that history with anyone who wants to learn more.

The logging industry isn't just part of this region's past, it's part of what makes the Can-Am possible today. Much of the trail system our mushers race through runs across Irving Woodlands logging land, and their support has been essential to the race for years. Being part of Loggerfest is one small way we can give something back to the community that has given so much to us.

May 15th-17th, 2026, in Fort Kent, Maine! Come say hello. We'd love to meet you!
