DANCING AT LUGHNASA - Brian Friel's masterpiece, directed by Steve Keim, a captivating exploration of memory and longing - passionate, sad, funny, and richly evocative.
In 1936 rural Ireland, the five Mundy sisters seek solace in each other and the newly purchased radio that keeps them connected to their roots. During the Festival of Lughnasa, Pagan and Christian meet and collide as the sisters love, fight, yearn, survive, …. and dance. Winner of the Olivier and Tony Award for Best Play.
Cast:
Kate Mundy: The eldest sister, a schoolteacher and disciplinarian.
Maggie Mundy: The witty, lively sister, and peacemaker.
Agnes Mundy: Quiet and industrious but also deeply emotional; a knitter.
Rose Mundy: Curious and full of fun, but also vulnerable and somewhat intellectually challenged.
Chris Mundy: The youngest, strong-willed, and romantic, Michael’s mother.
Michael Evans: The narrator (as an adult) who also interacts with his aunts as a child.
Gerry Evans: Michael's charming but restless and unreliable father.
Father Jack Mundy: The sisters' older brother, recently returned much changed from his 25 years in Africa as a missionary priest.
MARJORIE PRIME by Jordan Harrison and Directed by Eva Wright and Wendy Ishii
It’s the age of artificial intelligence, and 85-year-old Marjorie – a jumble of disparate, fading memories – has a handsome new companion who’s programmed to feed the story of her life back to her. What would we remember, and what would we forget, if given the chance? In this richly spare, wondrous new play, Jordan Harrison explores the mysteries of human identity and the limits – if any – of what technology can replace.
Cast:
MARJORIE - This part is cast.
WALTER - Thirties - bright eyed and handsome in an unspectacular way.
TESS - Fifties - Marjorie's daughter, anxious, fierce, and fragile.
JON - Fifties - Marjorie's son-in-law, patient and self-effacing. The warm heart of the play.
We will see you at the Bleu!
