The historic Buda Castle sitting atop Castle Hill above the Danube River in Budapest - Hungary. Buda Castle was first constructed in 1265 by King Béla IV as a stone fortress to safeguard the kingdom against Mongol invasions. Over the centuries, it evolved into a grand Gothic and Renaissance royal seat under rulers like King Sigismund and King Matthias Corvinus, before being heavily pillaged and falling into ruin during a 150-year Ottoman occupation. Liberated in 1686, the complex was rebuilt by the Habsburg dynasty into a sprawling, majestic Baroque palace. Tragically, the castle was nearly leveled again during the grueling Siege of Budapest in World War II. The structure seen today is the result of a simplified post-war restoration by the communist government, which transformed the historical complex into a cultural hub that now houses the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum. 🇭🇺

Löwenburg is a striking historic castle in Kassel, Germany, built in the late 18th century.
Although it looks like a medieval fortress, it was actually constructed as a romantic castle ruin for Landgrave Wilhelm IX of Hesse-Kassel. Set among the wooded hills of Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, Löwenburg features towers, battlements and a dramatic courtyard. Its medieval appearance and picturesque setting make it one of the most distinctive landmarks in Kassel.

The Fort la Latte (officially named Château de la Roche Goyon), a striking 14th-century medieval coastal fortress on the rocky headlands of the Emerald Coast in Brittany - France. The historic stronghold features a tall central keep, defensive ramparts, and a double drawbridge system. Because of its dramatic cliffside look, the site served as a filming location for classic and modern movies, including the 1958 film The Vikings starring Kirk Douglas. 🇫🇷
