IT'S HAPPENING IN FORBESTOWN!

Isn't it great to see our Forbestown community coming together to hold events, have fun, and showcase our lovely park and historic community center? For those of you in the Yuba/Butte Foothill area who are unfamiliar with Forbestown, the short stretch of New York Flat Road between the Forbestown General Store and the Elevation Church has seen a variety of events this summer, including art classes for kids, a car show, and ongoing outdoor dancercise classes. Coming up on Saturday, the 16th, will be the Forbestown Family BBQ. Then, on Saturday, August 30th, there’s a Neighborhood Sidewalk Sale, as well as closing day festivities at the Yuba Feather Museum. The park offers a beautiful, safe spot to picnic, push the kids on a swing, or shoot a few hoops. Come on up to Forbestown and catch the end of summer at its best!

Today is Movin and Groovin in the park. Location is Forbestown Park at 10:00. Bring chair if you prefer chair dancing.

This weekend is Mountain Fair at Mountaintops in Brownsville. FRC Shuttle will be shuttling Mountain Fair attendees to and from the Foothill Fire parking lot starting at 9am and running until 4pm for free. Thank you to all the volunteers who are making this happen. Donations to help with gas will be accepted. See you at the fair! Beep! Beep!

The Friends are reminding you that this Saturday 5/31 is opening day/family fun day in Forbestown. Activities for kids of all ages and the $1 menu is back. Treasure hunt, face painting. Our favorite donkeys Mojo and Huckleberry. We are open Noon-4 pm every Saturday and Sunday through August. 19096 New York Flat Rd, Forbestown.

We are featuring our new and expanded exhibits today. New this year: “Telephones come to the hills.” Fascinating history of how we got wired for telephone/telegraph communications. An old Victrola with recordings of the past. An old writing desk over 100 years old. Now in our lobby. Docs were discovered - must see. Totally facinating history.
Expanded this year: Wells Fargo and the other guys. Gold smuggling stories. How did they do it? The cattle drives expanded due to help from the Daley family. And much, much more.

Opening day coming May 31. Here is the latest news.

YFHA General Meeting was excellent and very well attended!! The Daley family - cattle ranchers in the foothills for 7 generations - told wonderful stories of their family history and about the industry of cattle ranching in the foothills. Dave Daley shared information from his book pictured here. Other pic (from the family) is of the Carlisle mine in the day.

Spring Cleanup Day - Saturday May 17 - 9:00 am to noon. Gold Trader Flat at the Museum. Bring gloves, and rakes or leaf blowers if available. Lunch provided to all volunteers. (Please, minors must be accompanied by responsible adults!)

Docent Training - Monday May 19 - 10 am to noon. The Museum. For new and returning Docents.

Opening Day / Family Fun Day - Saturday May 31 - noon to 4:00 pm. Treasure Hunt, face painting, animals, food (Kids menu - $1 per item!)
