SAFF 2025 is coming up!!!
The show is the same we had planned for last year, but due to the hurricane it was canceled. Brandy was able to alter the awards so a huge thanks to her for all the extra work she has put in
We have sponsors for all of our classes!!! We do need a gift for the Naumann’s, ideas?

We are still doing a Mexican Pot Luck dinner on Friday night. I think Erika is still organizing that part, so reach out to her with what you would like to bring, or she can make some suggestions.

Remember, there is a grocery store just down the street so you can always pick something up, meaning you don't need to bring food from home. This is always a fun way to say hi, ask questions and to get to know one another.

For the new people showing, we will hold a How to Show your Goat class on Fri, before Bonnie comes over, to give us a talk about our goats that will be followed by our pot luck dinner.

Saturday morning is our show, Dale Naumann is Judging.
Saturday night we will be having our group dinner at Sweeten Creek Brewing, same as the last couple of years.

We may be doing an agility class, let us know if you are interested in participating in this, and we will work together to make that happen. We can do it either on Fri or on Sun.

I have been trying to get a hold of someone from the NC Extension Service about the FAMACHA class we were going to do last year and doing it this year instead, but no one will return my calls. If anyone has an in with them, or would like to try, PLEASE do. Originally, we were going to hold the class almost the whole day on Fri.
If we cant do that, we are looking at doing a
Biosecurity class: why it’s important for the health of your herd
and a class on
Micron counts: What is it? What does it do? and How can it help my herd?

This is our show and we are the ones who make it a fun time for everyone, from the little babies to the older folks. If there is something you want to have, ask, perhaps we can do it
I can't wait to see everyone this year.
I know some of us did get together last year, and that was an incredible experience hopefully Marcia will be joining us. I missed seeing everyone else. I hope we all missed SAFF last year and are looking forward to this years show.

2026 we will be Hosting the CAGBA Nationals. Yippee spread the word.

I am putting up some before and after photos of Marcia Kummerles' place.
Because SAFF was canceled, our goat friends are all coming to Marcia's. Please join us if you can. We are doing our work weekend this coming Thursday-Sunday in Barnardsville, NC.
If you have missed our earlier posts, Marcia was severely affected by the flooding in NC. She lost her livelihood, producing beautiful yarn and finished products from her cherished Angora goats that were also lost in the floods.
Her studio, shop, and almost everything she had for sale and all her fiber equipment, except one triangle loom that she had taken upstairs with her are gone.
Her dog Dandy is keeping her company, as she insists on staying put in her home that is dangerous to get into and out of. I totally understand wanting to stay in your own home.
She, like everyone else, didn't have flood insurance, so she will get some money from FEMA, but we have been told it will be less than $50k. Not enough to do much at all.
We are asking if people would like to donate any money to Marcia, her Paypal and Venmo are: [email protected].
If you want to send her anything please send it to Esther Futrell and we will get it to Marcia.

Thank You for caring and helping to make a difference.
Anything will make a difference, if you want to send grass seeds to restart her pasture, flower seeds (Zinnas) are her favorite, but she loves all plants, garden tools to put her garden in. Gift cards to Tractor Supply, Lowes, Amazon, would all be appreciated as well. Marcia is still in shock and hasn't truly realized all she has lost and what she really needs.

PLEASE HELP Our Dear Friend in Barnardsville, NC

One of the sweetest most kind-hearted women I know has been hit especially hard by this hurricane.
Marcia Kummerle will be 80 in a couple weeks. Her neighbor rescued her from the rising water. Her barn, Angora goats, cat, studio, and her ability to make a living has all been wiped away.

She has no heat or electricity and the temperatures are going into the 30's next week. Winter is coming.

Amazon is having a Prime day in a few more days please consider sending anything you feel can make a difference.
IF ANYONE is so moved, a solar generator it would be an incredible gift help to her start recovering from the shock of what has happened.
We are hoping for a propane heater or two and the tanks for them. She also needs some way to allow her to cook, so she can have some hot food.

God Bless all of you for taking the time to read about Marcia and I hope you might consider sending her something, every dollar will make a difference.

A group of us are planning on going up there the weekend after this coming one. If you want to donate anything special for me to take up there with me please PM me. I know and trust everyone involved, so don't hesitate to send them to Esther Futrell.

The latest update on her home is below from Alison N Bell today:

"Construction friends of Jonathan and Esther Futrell, Judd and Jason, made it Marcia's to assess the damage. They took a good look at everything and agree the house itself is good to go!!
The decks, however, are precarious at best. Marcia told them the back deck, which is how she is entering the house, needed some work before the flood. The front deck is currently be held up by the debris and the steps are gone. The back lean-to area needs new posts on the backside.
There is a local guy, who is known as Bear who is helping. Esther is going to get me his info so we can get a list of supplies.. lumber etc, that is needed to make the decks safe.
Esther's mail is up and running and she said she can receive packages.
Packages can be sent to:
Marcia Kummerle
c/o Esther Futtrell
191 Wonderland Range Road
Cleveland, SC 29635
Jonathan is making trips up that way and can get them to her.
Please keep it to essentials and survival type gear until she is able to get packages to her place. Please do not expect it to get there to Marcia the day it arrives... they are NOT close by, but they will make sure she gets it, just may take a day or so.
So far, the work party for the 17th-21st will include Johnny and myself, Mea Stone, Joel and Emily Simon and others that are closer to Marcia.
Esther and Jonathan said they have heavy equipment they can bring what they think will help."

"As for a Go Fund Me... not sure if one has been set up yet, but I haven't seen one. If someone local can get to her to help her set it up, it would be great. I have people willing to help, but we really don't want her giving personal information over the phone/email.
Until then, her PayPal is: [email protected]"

Hi All,
Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair, SAFF is coming up soon and Brandy and I have been working behind the scenes to ensure this year is even more fun than last. We are working on the awards and bringing everything together.
Thurs Oct 17-Sunday Oct 20th 2024
Arrival is Thursday 12-6 and Fri 9-6. We will be housed in the McGough Arena, WNC Ag Center, Fletcher, NC. Across the street from Asheville airport.
Friday during the day: We are having a guest speaker, Andrew Weaver, the goat specialist with the NC Extension Office. He will be teaching us about either FAMACHA or How to do Fecals. I am waiting to speak to the office to confirm our talk and times. I was told that either class will take the majority of the day. Sponsored by CAGBA.
Friday before Dinner: Bonnie Naumann will be holding a round table discussion, Fleece: On and Off the Goat
Friday's Pot Luck Dinner this year will be Mexican. Please contact Ericka Henke at [email protected] or on FB to discuss our dinner
Sat Morning at 9am our show starts. Judge Dale Naumann
Sat Afternoon Alison Bell will be holding a shearing demo and lessons for all.
Sat night we will have our dinner at Sweeten Creek Brewing again for dinner. Very Casual, order your food and come sit down.
Sunday late morning we will be doing an obstacle course, this should be fun and hysterical so be ready to take part and be ready to laugh.
Please remember to get your entries in before Oct 1st. Cost is $7 per goat and you can enter as many classes as that goat is eligible for. There are no additional fees for pens if the goat is being shown. Goats not shown and penned is $25 per pen. PLEASE ask for more pens than you need so we can make sure we will have enough pens, especially is some goats decide they don't like their friends. Health Certificates are required for out-of-state entries and there is a vet check.
I spoke to Bonnie Naumann and she asked me to remind everyone that she has some nice goats for sale and has offered to transport them to the show for people who have purchased them. So, if you are looking for new genetics or AAGBA goats, contact Bonnie.
Please contact me if I haven't already contacted you about sponsoring a class. The class sponsorships are $40 each, you can send me a check or Paypal friends and family.
We will have another great experience this year, learning, making friends and supporting each other in our passion.
If you have any questions, ideas, concerns or just need to talk, please contact me at 817-675-9352 or Brandy at [email protected].
Thanks,
Mea

Hello SAFF show family.

We are starting to make our plans for SAFF this year. Our show will be Sat Oct 19th this year. Are you ready?

We are very excited about this year and hope to have some exciting news soon.

We will need class sponsors, so if you want to sponsor a class for $40 please let Mea know. Your name or farm name will be included on our sponsor list. This will cover the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash prizes and the extras you have come to love at SAFF, coffee, soda, water, and food.

Our show will be in the McGough Arena this year, where the sheep and fleece shows are.

I have been looking at a better way to trim hooves and came across Hoof Boss electric trimmers. I posted on Angora goat Lovers if anyone has used them and was surprised at the number of people who had and who wanted more information. So I contacted the company and asked if they would come to SAFF Angora Goat Show and demonstrate their product to us. Who would be interested is seeing the trimmers in action?

Don't forget to bring your own bedding for your goats with you because there won't be any for sale at the show grounds.
Last year there was some straw left because of a show that had been there before us, But I don't know if that will happen this year.
