Friends of the Locktown Stone Church

Friends of the Locktown Stone Church A historical stone building which was a community place of worship, now restored and functioning as a venue for music and other events.

The friends who started in 1973, were incorporated in 1986, have restored the building and made it available for weddings, services and concerts. The organization consists of a Board of Trustees with 13 members, elected yearly, and a group of advisors from the community. The board meets the first Wednesday of every month except July, August and January. The Friends have a contributing membership o

f approximately 300 and raise funds from private donations. Restoration projects have been funded by a combination of State and County grants. The property is owned by Delaware Township and leased by the Friends. The Locktown Stone Church fills an historical and cultural niche in western Hunterdon County. The simple stone meeting house, built in 1819, was and is today a small cultural center, where people come together to celebrate. In 1819 they sang old school Baptist hymns, a cappella. Today audiences assemble for classical music trios and jazz concerts. Members of the Friends and guests come together for picnics, weddings, oral history projects, award ceremonies and memorial services.

The Locktown Stone Church is undergoing vital restoration work, including wall repairs and the repositioning of large flagstones at the front entrance to ensure safety and ADA accessibility. Our sincere appreciation goes to our patrons, donors, and grant providers for their crucial support in preserving this historic 207-year-old church.

These smiling faces just heard that the Locktown Stone Church was awarded a nicely sum in a grant from the Hunterdon County Cultural and Heritage Commission that will help support the Locktown StoneHouse Music series.

Oh boy - do we have a great season planned for the Locktown StoneHouse Music series this year! New season starts in May with our favorite openers, Burnt Mills Highballers followed by an exciting list of performances through October.

Plus, with the 250th anniversary of the US, we'd love to hold some history chats focused on local stories. Anyone game? 🎺🎼🎷🥁🪇🎺🪕🎻🪗🥁🎤🎹🪈🎸
