Two weeks out. Friday, October 23, The Tommy kicks off!

The weekend always opens with a night that feels more like a homecoming than anything. Whether you've been part of the Tommy for years or you're walking in for the first time, this is the night we come together. We're celebrating true friendships, the surf we love, and the next generation coming up.

This year it means a little more. In our 24th year, we’re throwing the first kickoff in our new home across the street.

Here's the night: an acoustic set by Timing Belt, ice-cold Pacifico and other drinks, and a great lineup of goods and services up for grabs, all donated to the cause. Keep an eye out this week for some sneak peeks!

Two surfers, one team, because Tommy loved nothing more than surfing alongside his friends, and stayed fiercely loyal to his crew.

WaterCare Irrigation and Well is back to sponsor the Tommy Team division, and it couldn't be more fitting. WaterCare is owned and operated by Duane Taylor, one of Tommy's best friends and a partner to this contest year after year.

Duane's crew handles water from below ground to above—wells, pumps, sprinklers, and systems. And we love how they view water as a resource worth stewarding.

Hot off the press! Presenting this year’s art, which has a special origin story worth knowing.

In honor of the 24th year, which marks Tommy’s 24 years of life with us, we went back to the beginning, soliciting the help of the creator of our original logo (who wishes to remain behind the curtain, very cool).

He immediately agreed, shared our vision, and got to work.

He over-delivered (which we love).

This photo has always been one of Will’s favorites of Tommy, showcasing a style that still holds up by today’s standards.

And the colors? Powerful. The red, white, and black color combination was Tommy’s favorite for his boards. Something the designer had no idea about.

We’re so grateful for his contributions to this year’s event, and we’re actively bringing it to life behind the scenes. Beginning with our posters that are headed out throughout our community and this post, which you should share if you’re stoked with us!

It was fitting that one of our first gatherings in the restored space would be this one—honoring the most recent scholarship recipients of the Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic.

These five young women bring academic excellence, real ambition, hearts to serve, and genuine kindness. We loved getting to hear about their passions and plans! Swipe to meet them, and join us in congratulating them.

The room said everything about what the Tommy is: Volunteers, sponsors, family of former recipients, longtime Z Wave staff, a lifeguard, a contest judge. People whose lives have been woven into this community for years, gathered to cheer on the next generation.

As always, these scholarships are awarded by the Tommy but made possible by every sponsor, contestant, and participant of the 23rd Annual Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic. Thank you!
