Hardscrabble Theater proudly presents our First Annual One-Act Play Festival, featuring 10 original plays written by local playwrights!

Each program features five different one-act plays, giving audiences the chance to experience brand-new stories and support local artists right here in Farmingdale.

LOUISA: Mid 30’s. Very attractive. Friendly, kind, good listener.
JUDY: Mid 40’s, looks her age. Owner of Dream Date Agency. Professionally
dressed. She is intrigued by Ben.

Hardscrabble Theater

Two Cents

The new original play, Two Cents written by Amy Nicole, is making its full-production premiere after spending the past 4 years touring with staged readings in LA, NY, Sag Harbor, West Babylon, and London as part of the Camden Fringe Festival. Set in New Orleans, Two Cents tells the story of Grace, a young woman set out to find answers to her past when she encounters Todd, a homeless veteran trying to find his way home. With one simple question and a little bit of fate, Grace and Todd’s lost souls befriend each other as they search for answers to solve Grace’s family mystery. Together they each look to their French Quarter friends Miss Celia and Mr. Williams for insight and find more than they could have imagined.

Todd- Late 20’s-early 30’s
Lead
Todd is a homeless war veteran living on the streets of New Orleans. In spite of his circumstances with PTSD and bad choices he is very in touch with his circumstances and fighting to make his way home all the while still trying to help others. This is a lead role.

Johnny- Late 20’s-early 30’s
Supporting
Johnny is Todd’s brother in battle. In this role we see Johnny in a flashback scene while he and Todd are in battle. They are bonded in their friendship and we get a glimpse of what haunts Todd in the present.

While the role of Johnny is for one scene it is a crucial piece of the story and one of the most emotionally packed of the play.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Hardscrabble Theater starting 9/15/26 at 7 p.m.

Performance: Sunday, November 8, 2026 3 p.m.
