Runner's Edge Main Street Mile

Runner's Edge Main Street Mile Runners Edge Main Street Mile is on September 5, 2026. A post race event party will be held at Tap Room from 11 -1.

The Companions in Courage Foundation was founded by NHL Hall of Famer, Pat LaFontaine as a way to connect hospitalized children with their family, friends and heroes. We are recognized as a public 501(c)(3) charity, building interactive playrooms in hospitals. In addition, we have been selected by Microsoft to administer a program delivering mobile XBox 360 kiosks to patients bedsides throughout North America. Through the generosity of our "companions," innovative communications tools introduce technology to the healing process and improve the hospital experience for all patients by giving them "courage".

County Seat Kiwanis President Tony Capobianco presents Hockey Hall of Famer Pat LaFonatine with a Certificate of Recognition from Kiwanis for the amazing work of his Companions in Courage Foundation (CIC).’ Kiwanis and CiC are two organizations perfectly aligned for the welfare of children. This presentation where others were recognized by CIC for their work for their organization took place at the 22nd year Main Street Mile during the Labor Day Weekend.

Kiwanis International is a global community of clubs, members and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time. Kiwanis stands with more than 550,000 members from K-Kids to Key Club to Kiwanis and many ages in between in 80 countries and geographic areas. Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy, and offering guidance.

This was submitted to us by Joel Harris, former Kiwanis Governor and our photographer at The Tap Room post-race fundraiser.

Yesterday we sent an invitation to a survey to all registered participants from last Saturday's event. The response has been great, thank you. Lots of positive feedback. We also want to be sure we get honest and constructive feedback as well, which we have also gotten, and there have been some great recommendations. The survey will remain open until end of day on Monday, September 14. So, if you have not yet responded, here is your chance to provide feedback to help us continue making the Main Street Mile a first-class event and great experience in support of Companions in Courage Foundation! Again, thank you!

What a great day yesterday! Thank you!!!

So many photos will be forthcoming. Here is one sent by our good friend Matthew Cappiello of the group photo after the presentations. Great to see Joel Harris called out given all his great work with photography over the years. And Eric Schwartz, Elizabeth Melillo-Paulson and Karyn Pesner were also so deserving!

There were many comments about what a great atmosphere we had yesterday. And how great was it to see Pat LaFontaine's grandchildren there? It was also special to hear from former NY Giant and 2x Super Bowl winner Perry Williams, 2x Super Bowl Champion as well as his teammate Sean Landeta, who also made an appearance yesterday. Having a Hockey Hall of Famer and 2 Super Bowl winners in the house, pretty cool. But more importantly, yesterday focused on the mission of Companions in Courage Foundation - helping patients in Children's Hospitals. And this is not possible without support from incredible sponsors like Runner's Edge NY, Brooks, Carman Callahan and Ingham, SterlingRisk, Horizon Paper, Dr. Larry Lembo, FalkBuilt, New York Islanders, NHL, Oyster Bay Brewing Company, McDonald's, Check Point Automotive, Stew Leonard's, and our good friends at Connoisseur Media of Long Island! And let's not forget the great team at RaceAwesome, who did a lot of work given the change in the course this year.

In addition, the Farmingdale Cross Country Team had 30 members take part thanks to support from Walter Priestley. And the Plainedge Cross Country Team had 13 participants thanks to support from Bill DaCosta from State Farm in Massapequa. It was also great to see Kiwanis make a donation to CiC yesterday.

The race has 355 registrants, exceeding last year's total. Tyler McPartland won the overall race in a time of 4:14. Laurel Fisher won for the women in a time of 4:57. Norbert Holowat won the wheelchair division in 4:21 followed by our good friend Peter Hawkins in a time of 4:23.

It was also quite a scene in the Village Green at the finish, where a number of booths were setup that included the NY Islanders, who also brought their mascot Nyisles along, Americana Architects, Brooks, Sport Coffee, and the NY Islander Booster Club. And thank you Nick Lalvani for setting up that cheering section on the course!

Finally - thank you to Amberly and the staff at The Tap Room Farmingdale for a great job yesterday!

By the way - we exceeded our goal for the raffle! A great way to start to the Labor Day weekend. Thank you all for the great support!

More photos coming!
