Runner's Edge Main Street Mile

Runner's Edge Main Street Mile Runners Edge Main Street Mile is on August 30, 2025. A post race event party will be held at Tap Room from 11 -1.

The Companions in Courage Foundation was founded by NHL Hall of Famer, Pat LaFontaine as a way to connect hospitalized children with their family, friends and heroes. We are recognized as a public 501(c)(3) charity, building interactive playrooms in hospitals. In addition, we have been selected by Microsoft to administer a program delivering mobile XBox 360 kiosks to patients bedsides throughout N

orth America. Through the generosity of our "companions," innovative communications tools introduce technology to the healing process and improve the hospital experience for all patients by giving them "courage".

Doing one final communication on this campaign in memory of my brother Steven Leff. It closes this coming Saturday, March 21. So you all know - there are two campaigns that have raised over $3,000 as of today. All the support we have gotten is deeply appreciated. Thank you again!

Campaign to Support CCompanions in Courage Foundationin Memory of Steven Leff

As many of you know, on December 22, 2025, my brother Steven Leff unexpectedly and suddenly passed away. Steve was a great father, brother and friend to so many. His friends have told me of the level of selflessness and loyalty he displayed with them, his loss was impactful for so many.

In Steve's memory, a program has been setup with Companions in Courage Foundation (CiC) to support the great work they do. Funds raised from this campaign include focus in the following areas:

- Ongoing support for the Santa Connection program, which impacts over 100 patients in Children’s Hospitals located across the US and Canada who get personal online Santa visits each year.

- Support for sensory programs being put in place by some of the Children’s Hospitals that CiC supports.

- Resources to support the valuable ongoing efforts by Children’s Hospital Child Life teams, who more often than not are unsung heroes for so many patients in these Children’s Hospitals and their families.

Steve always focused on making a difference, and this campaign would mean a lot for his memory. The campaign runs until Friday March 20, 2026. Support is greatly appreciated.

If your company has a program to match donations, we encourage you to take advantage of it. To my colleagues at Pure Storage - we already have a matching program via Pure Good Foundation underway that is already making an impact in Steven's memory.

Thank you once again.

From Race Director Mark Leff:

I am truly saddened to hear the news of the passing of Dennis Boyd. Dennis was our original timer for the Runners Edge Main Street Mile. He and his wife Gail were an absolute pleasure to work with and leave many great memories from our early days of doing the race. There was no nicer guy. Even when the pressure was on, he always kept his cool. He was also a great contributor to the Long Island running community and past President of Massapequa Road Runners. I can recall seeing him out on the course running, he was just taking it in and enjoying the moment. That's what's important and something we can all learn from. Dennis passed away from Parkinson's Disease with Lewy body dementia on March 7. Hopefully he is now at peace and no longer suffering. I can speak for myself given the recent loss of my brother Steve, life is short, so take in and enjoy every moment and appreciate those who are kind. giving.and caring. Condolences go his wife Gail. RIP Dennis.

Last night, Chris Cuomo did another full hour segment focused on curing cancer. His report last night was live and was appropriately called "Why can't We Cure Cancer?" In his first segment 3 months ago, Cuomo's focus was on the work being done by Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong at his Los Angeles clinic, who was also on last night's live segment. Jim Johnson, Executive Director of Companions in Courage Foundation, had the good fortune of getting into a clinical trial at Dr. Soon-Shiong's clinic. Jim shared the good news last night that today he is cancer free.

Child Life teams all over the US and Canada have no better advocate or that matter, hero with Jim Johnson. This is a great story to share for all.

Santa Connection is made possible by the great support from all those who take part in the Runners Edge Main Street Mile. For 18 years Companions in Courage Foundation has made this event possible, bringing smiles to the faces of over 100 children in 14 Children's Hospitals across the US and Canada. This video, which includes well wishes from Howie Rose, Bob Nystrom, Anders Lee, Eva Erickson from Survivor, Robert Clohessy from Blue Bloods and Robert Picardo from Star Trek Voyager says so much about the meaning and impact of this great event. It takes place December 2, 3 and 4. Thank you to our good friend Eric Schwartz at Connoisseur Media of Long Island for hosting us.

Thank you for the great support.
