Barfleet Purveyors of fun and responsible party entertainment at sci-fi and genre conventions in the Midwest and parts of the East Coast.

Barfleet is an organization whose mission is to provide hospitality and host safe, well-organized events often at science fiction, gaming, and other genre-related conventions for adult attendees. Barfleet is many things to many people. In the most general sense, Barfleet is a national organization whose sole mission is to provide hospitality and throw parties at science fiction, gaming and other g

enre-related conventions for adult convention attendees. Our local chapters also throw several private functions each year that are open to all Barfleet members and their guests. For members, Barfleet is a reason to throw a party; a group of friends that share similar interests; responsible drinking to excess; and a massive amount of somewhat enjoyable work to throw great parties for people you hardly know at various conventions. For guests, Barfleet is a great time and great people; music, drinks, fun, and conversation; a place to hang out and meet other convention-goers and the occasional Guest of Honor in a casual and friendly atmosphere; and a place where carefully controlled chaos and entertaining mixology come together in ways most small convention "room parties" simply can't match. For convention organizers, Barfleet is a dedicated group of people whose sole mission at conventions is to throw parties. We're professionals and that's how we handle our parties. We go to great lengths to avoid hotel hassles, prevent property damage, proactively engage convention staff before and during our events and make sure that our guests are both well entertained and reasonably safe. We've been doing this for many years and we've gotten pretty good at it. Over the years, we've done everything from a single hospitality suite with a folding table as a bar to a full-blown night club with two built-in bars, dancers, and a live band. It depends on what the venue has to offer, what resources and cash we can throw at it and how many Barfleet crew members we can bring to help run things. But at any Barfleet convention party, there are two constants: There will be alcohol served and all attendees must be over 21 years of age with proper government-issued photo ID. Beyond that, we're pretty much open to anything, within reason, and within local law. Barfleet is full of open-minded people, and we certainly have some members whose personal lifestyles are more interesting than most of the general public's. But that's not who we are and that's not what we're about. The things we promote are entertainment, responsible drinking with proper recovery and fun.

One sleep and a workday is behind me since SBI, and I have now recovered, enough to post anyway. It was great to see so many of my chosen family, even behind masks!

I was thrilled to be able to promote Vice Admiral Otto Von Matic, Captain Han Solo Cup and Admiral Lucy Long, although Captain Thesser successfully made his dodge roll (DeCon will be here before he knows it)!

I want to thank the Indycent crew, and all who helped with the party, for their effort and attention to detail.

Additionally, I would like to thank Vice Admiral Erickson for connecting the party with our special guest, Fleet Admiral Roddenberry, so that he could be a part of the event!

Until DeCon,

From the new likes we're getting, we can only assume that The U.B.S. Indycent is making friends and under-the-influencing people at WhosYerCon.

If you missed your opportunity, feel free to keep an eye out for Barfleet folks at ConGlom in Louisville, where surely shenanigans will be afoot, or at PenguiCon up near Detroit at the end of this month.

Bring your liver or your best dance moves...for science!

Admiral Nemecek is coming to Starbase Indy in November. Are you coming to hang with Barfleet on Thanksgiving weekend?

Author, editor, interviewer, archivist, host, producer, voiceover, actor—Larry Nemecek has a background in news and theatre but it is “Trekland” where he’s worked ever since his “Next Generation” Companion became a classic. An historian/ pundit for Trek DVDs and a convention guest worldwide, Larry has just launched the pioneering PORTAL 47 fan deep-dive experience for Trek, embarked on a voiceover career, and speaks for the non-profit “Enterprise in Space” science/sci-fi homage and grassroots space orbiter mission sending 100+ student projects and AI/aerospace demos aloft in 2019. His “Trekland” blog of vidchats and “Trekland On Speaker” remastered interview CDs bridge Star Trek old and new—as does his documentary project , the 1982 meltdown-turned-miracle The Con of Wrath. (Look for this weekend’s “Dr. Trek Show” crowdfunder event for it).

Along with the more recent Stellar Cartography map/book set, he worked on the storied “Star Trek: The Experience” in Las Vegas and world tours, was managing editor of the official Communicator magazine 1998-2005 and writes in Star Trek mag today, his column there going since 1998—and played Dr. McCoy in two episodes of Webby and Geekie Award-winning Star Trek Continues online. A two-time co-winner of state Associated Press news awards, Larry also makes time to help refresh the legacy of his hero, fellow Oklahoman Will Rogers.

Most of us were too busy reading about the celebrations and talking about Star Trek during their 50th Anniversary to pick a single thing to share with you. It's so hard to choose!

We'd like to take a moment to share a project we've been keeping our eye on sharing more footage from their documentary, Chasing Atlantis, where they interviewed people involved with Star Trek and what it means to them.

Since we can't see Chasing Atlantis yet, this will have to do.

How did YOU celebrate? Do you have any awesome articles from yesterday to share? Can such an anniversary be encapsulated in one day?

Let's talk Trek!

Star Trek has been an enormous inspiration to our film. So, in celebration of 50 years of Star Trek, we share clips from interviews with members of the Star ...
