On Friday, May 1st, the man himself brings his signature "Prairie Home Companion" style to Fairfield with Garrison Keillor Tonight: an evening of stand-up, storytelling, audience song, and poetry.

One man, one microphone. There are sung sonnets, limericks and musical jokes, and the thread that runs through it is the beauty of growing old. Despite the inconvenience, old age brings the contentment of LESS IS MORE.

There is the News from Lake Wobegon, a town booming with new entrepreneurs, makers of artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf, breeders of composting worms, and dogs trained to do childcare.

And an acapella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an odd medley of patriotic songs, pop standards, hymns, and ending with the national anthem.

The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center shares that Executive Director Lindsay Bauer will be stepping down from her role, with her final day planned for May 1.

Lindsay has accepted a new opportunity that represents the next step in her professional journey. While we will miss her leadership, we are deeply grateful for the care, vision, and dedication she has brought to this work.

Since joining the organization in July 2020, Lindsay has led the Center through a period of challenge, growth, and renewed connection. Under her leadership, the Center expanded programming, launched new initiatives, and strengthened its role as a place where our community gathers, connects, and experiences meaningful moments together.

The organization remains in a strong and steady position. Our leadership team is fully in place and actively guiding day-to-day operations, and the Board of Directors will begin a thoughtful search for the next Executive Director. Interested candidates can send a cover letter and resume to [email protected].

This work has always been about loving our community well, spreading joy, and building a powerful community of curious and kind adventurers here in Southeast Iowa, and we are committed to continuing that work.
