"Evocative... acclaimed... innovative..." declares a feature in The Iowa Source described Niladri Kumaar, playing at The Center on Oct. 16.
"Regarded as one of the most popular musicians of his generation, Niladri Kumaar... was trained by his father, Pandit Kartick Kumar, a senior disciple of the legendary Ravi Shankar... who brought the sitar to an eager generation of Western music lovers by inspiring a certain Beatle named George..."

The Source noted: "By bridging orthodox ragas to more contemporary settings, he has succeeded in enlivening the ancient melodies and engaging younger audiences."

If you loved Zakir Hussain performing at The Center three years ago, don't miss Niladri Kumaar on October 16. Like his mentor Hussain who did crossover work with George Harrison and Yo-Yo Ma, Kumaar has done collabs with Herbie Hancock and other popular music greats.

He's also taken the sitar and electrified it as his own invention - the Zitar - to produce both faithful and innovative sounds like you've never heard.

On Friday, May 1st, the man himself brings his signature "Prairie Home Companion" style to Fairfield with Garrison Keillor Tonight: an evening of stand-up, storytelling, audience song, and poetry.

One man, one microphone. There are sung sonnets, limericks and musical jokes, and the thread that runs through it is the beauty of growing old. Despite the inconvenience, old age brings the contentment of LESS IS MORE.

There is the News from Lake Wobegon, a town booming with new entrepreneurs, makers of artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf, breeders of composting worms, and dogs trained to do childcare.

And an acapella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an odd medley of patriotic songs, pop standards, hymns, and ending with the national anthem.

Get your tickets at fairfieldacc.com or call our Box Office at (641) 472-2787.
