"The benign spirit of the late, great Fred Anzevino, founder of Theo Ubique, must have been smiling down Sunday on the classic baseball tuner “Damn Yankees,” one of those old, all-American musicals that, when produced with this level of charm, charisma and competence, invariably puts a smile on your face and a “W” in your list of aspirations.

As joyously directed and deftly cast here by Daryl D. Meet Madison Brunner! Another new face to Theo in Damn Yankees.

Chicago credits include Grease, Beehive: The 60s Musical, A Christmas Carol 24 (Metropolis Performing Arts), New Faces Sing Broadway NOW (Porchlight Music Theatre), Bullets Over Broadway (Stage773), “The Witch” in Big Fish (Harper Ensemble), and more. She has also performed internationally in Paris Disneyland.

INNING 4: THE BIG HITTERS
The cast featured Gwen Verdon as Lola, Stephen Douglass as Joe Hardy (pictured above) and Ray Walston as Mr. Applegate. Both Walston and Verdon would go on to reprise their roles in the film.

INNING 5: THE FOSSE EFFECT
Damn Yankees was the first show that introduced Fosse and Verdon to one another and created the dynamic duo who would influence dance on Broadway with Sweet Charity and of course, Chicago. Verdon and Fosse both won Tony Awards for their respective work.

INNING 6: THE WINNING RECORD
The original production was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won multiple including Best Musical, Best Choreography, Best Conductor and Musical Director, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, and Best Scenic Design in a Musical.

INNING 7: THE FUTURE OF DAMN YANKEES
Theo caught the rights to the show just in time as Arena Stage recently updated the show for a modern audience. This recently reimagined staging is officially heading to Broadway for a highly anticipated revival. Directed and choreographed again by Sergio Trujillo, the Broadway production is expected to open in Spring 2027. Now is the time to be a part of a show that's going to be on everyone's mind very soon!
