Did you know that the Pelican holds the record for the largest bill for birds at 45cm long (18in). In this bill, they eat mainly fish. But their diet can vary to smaller creatures like tadpoles, and larger birds can eat turtles, crustaceans and even other birds like seagulls. Their huge throat pouch can hold more than 11 litres of water (3 gallons).

Despite Pelicans being such heavy birds, with some large species weighing up to 12kg (27lbs), they have air sacs in their bones which helps in buoyancy for swimming.
