On Monday, March 13, 2017 Sheriff Mike Downey held his last department meeting as Sheriff of Humboldt County. During the meeting, he thanked his staff for their dedicated service to the community and knows he is leaving the department in capable hands.

Sheriff Downey also honored Sgt. Jesse Taylor and Deputy Ben Filippini (not present) by presenting them with lifesaving awards for saving a woman having a heart attack.

Though his time as Sheriff has come to an end, Sheriff Downey has prepared an outstanding staff to continue to work in the mission of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office.

Nearly 60 kids from Humboldt County got the opportunity to "Shop With A Cop" last week, and the event started and ended right here at Sequoia Conference Center! The event was made possible through donations from Rotary Club of Southwest Eureka, Quota International, Target, McDonalds, Humboldt County Office of Education, Eureka Neighborhood Watch, Humboldt Transit Authority, Eureka Police Officers Association, Humboldt Deputy Sheriff's Organization, Bedliners Plus, and many more!
