BREAKING NEWS: On Oct. 10, Klamath Tribal fish specialists confirmed the presence of a radio-tagged adult Chinook in the lower Williamson River, above Klamath Lake in Oregon. (Click link in bio for statement.) That follows news on Sept. 24 that cameras had captured the first Chinook salmon in a century to make it over the fish ladder on Keno Dam, roughly 20 miles south of Klamath Lake.

Last summer, Tribes and partners celebrated the historic removal of four massive dams on the Klamath River. But it was unclear how salmon would handle the Keno and Link River Dam fish ladders above—neither of which was built for adult salmon.

NOW, with salmon willpower on full display, we look forward to work by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife—in partnership with Tribes and other allies—to improve both ladders and help more salmon reach hundreds of miles of rich habitat above Klamath Lake. Stay tuned as we track one of the most-watched salmon recovery efforts in the world.
