2025 Estelline Rodeo Queen:
Josie Nold doesn’t see leadership as a spotlight, she sees it as a responsibility to lift others up.
Native to Brookings, Nold is currently studying animal science while serving as the South Dakota FFA state vice president, a role that has challenged her to grow both personally and professionally. While her official duties include keeping meetings running smoothly and stepping in when needed, she believes her true purpose goes far beyond a title.
Her journey to FFA leadership began with the encouragement of others. A mentor once reminded her that she would end up where she was meant to be and that she could make a difference wherever that was. That message, combined with the impact of the teacher who believed in her early on, inspired Nold to become that same source of support for members.
Throughout her year in office, Nold says she has learned one of her most valuable lessons, how to live in the moment. With a packed schedule of travel, meetings, and member interactions, she has embraced the idea of “being where your feet are,” making the most of every connection along the way.
Those connections are what matter most. Whether visiting chapters across the state or meeting members from different backgrounds, Nold has learned to adapt her leadership style, understanding that each person and each chapter is different. It’s a skill that has strengthened her ability to connect and lead effectively.
She also emphasizes that FFA is for everyone. While rooted in agriculture, she describes the organization as a family, one that welcomes members regardless of their background and unites them through shared goals and experiences.
Despite the growth opportunities, Nold is quick to remind others that state officers are still just people. The role comes with high expectations and responsibility, but at its core, it’s about authenticity and service.
Her advice to future members is simple but meaningful, “Live in the moment because in a role that only lasts a short time it’s the moments and the people that leave a lasting impact.”
