With deep sadness, I need to share that my friend Pete “Silly” Smith has passed away.

Pete wasn’t just a clown — he was a true ambassador of joy. He was my mentor, my encourager, and one of the most naturally funny people I’ve ever known. The man truly didn’t have an off switch when it came to jokes. If there was a quiet moment, Pete filled it. If there was a heavy moment, Pete lightened it. If there was a crowd, Pete made sure they were smiling.

He was a clown in and out of makeup. The red nose just made visible what was already true about him — he was wired to bring joy. He believed laughter mattered. He believed people mattered. And he tried, every single day, to leave them a little happier than he found them.
I’m so grateful for the time I had learning from him — not just about timing and punchlines, but about heart. Pete didn’t just teach me how to be funny. He showed me how to use humor to lift people up.

The world feels a little quieter without him… but I hope we honor him by telling one more joke, sharing one more laugh, and choosing joy whenever we can.
Rest easy, Silly. Thanks for the laughs. 🎈
