So what could be better than an Eagle 🦅 in golf? Well, in our tournament, that would be what I’m calling a DOUBLE EAGLE SPONSOR🦅🦅!! 😍So join me in thanking my friend, Patti, who has purchased a double Eagle honoring her amazing father’s life. Dr Will Mattison attended the Citadel and served in The United States Army during WW2 from 1943-1947. He was wounded in France and was honored with a Purple Heart. He was an active member of the Purple Heart Society in Ellijay. After graduating from John Hopkins, He served as the President of the Stanford Medical Staff and was a Professor of Medicine at Stanford.

In 1968, Wilbur founded the Charles Armstrong School for Dyslexic Children. He dedicated fifty plus years in service to the school. Countless dyslexic children have benefited from their education at the Armstrong School and Wilbur’s vision and dedication to the school will impact countless more as the school is thriving as one of the most outstanding schools for dyslexic children in the country.

I was lucky to know Dr. Will after he moved across the creeks, down the road with his daughter Patti, my friend, to Ellijay. Dr Will, was an avid golfer and played golf at Whitepath in his late 90s. He taught his grandchildren how to play and inspired in them his love of the game and his generosity! His never-ending “enthusiastic optimism” and twinkling charisma remain at the heart and soul of the Charles Armstrong School.

Dr. Will charmed his Ellijay neighbors and inspired us as he spent his last 9 years with his daughter truly “living” until he passed in February at the age of 100. His foursome team will be called “Dr, Will’s Enthusiastic Optimism”
