JAMAICA DAY REGGAE FESTIVAL IS THE PLATFORM FOR THE PROMOTION OF REGGAE MUSIC, THE MUSIC THAT SOOTHES, REJECTS WARS, ENCOURAGES LOVE AND UNITY, AND PROMOTES PEACE AMONG MANKIND.
It is a puzzle that the Jamaican Embassy, under Mrs Marks's leadership, has never endorsed or attended any of its events. A repeated request was sent to her and the staff, but there was never a response. Similar to the behavior of officialdom in Jamaica, reggae is talked about, monetized, and allowed to stray from the foundational principle of our black gold.
Our country's people have yet to benefit from their cultural heritage; our culture was and is put on the cutting block under privatization to benefit corporate greed. One only has to tour Trench Town and its cultural yard; these historical sights are occasionally painted with our icons to mask the endemic poverty that daily crushed the aspirations of our people. When will our people learn that our culture must be protected and used to uplift our people spiritually and morally? The recent One Love documentary to the world once again proves the power of Bob's message of love and the admiration of the world of our culture.
The Love of Africa by Bob Marley was somehow ignored by leaving out his performance in Zimbabwe, but strangely, his performance in Europe was highlighted. Europe that r***d and exploited Africa!! Yes, that was a big Blunder!! Was it Planned?
Jamaica Day reggae festival has stood the test of time. It will continue to showcase the best of our culture with or without the Blessing of our Babylonian representative, Mrs Marks.
