Nicky D’s Restaurant wasn’t just a spot to eat—it was an experience. The Italian neighborhood in the Harrison Street area of Elkhart, Indiana, may be gone, but thanks to storytellers like Ron Minichillo, the neighborhood establishments, like the very "colorful" Nicky D's Italian Restaurant, still live on. It was known to everyone in town for its "quirky atmosphere" as much as for its food. People came from as far away as Chicago to frequent this place.

If you are old enough to have eaten there, this video will bring the stories back to life. If you have never visited there, this story will make you wish you had.

The Italian winemakers in Elkhart have probably wrapped up their work by now (mid-October). Frank Lucchese, my favorite traditionalist, beautifully narrates a video we made 17 years ago, in 2008, about his method of making wine that closely follows his father's ways from Italy.
