They may seem like small changes, but together they’re part of the ongoing work to make Downtown El Cajon more welcoming, comfortable and beautiful for everyone who spends time here.

Come for the art. Leave your mark on Downtown El Cajon. 🎨

This Saturday, from 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Alley Cat Art Fest transforms Downtown into one big celebration of creativity, bringing together more than 50 local artists, live music, food, drinks and public art across Main Street, Magnolia Avenue, Arts Alley, Prescott Promenade and beyond.

And the impact doesn’t end when the festival does.

Proceeds from Alley Cat Art Fest help restore Downtown El Cajon’s existing murals and support future public art projects — helping keep creativity visible throughout our community for years to come.

Shop local art, wander through Arts Alley, find your favorite mural and be part of something that continues long after September 12.

There’s a lot of history to discover right here in Downtown El Cajon. 🤎

The Olaf Wieghorst Museum is one of those special places that adds character to our Downtown, preserving the legacy of renowned Western artist Olaf Wieghorst while creating a space where art, history and community come together.

And that story continues outside the museum, too. The “Navajos at Castle Creek” mural, located on the museum grounds, was recently restored with generous support from the Olaf Wieghorst Museum, helping preserve another piece of Downtown El Cajon’s public art collection.

The restoration is part of the Downtown El Cajon Public Mural Restoration & Expansion Program, an initiative from the Downtown El Cajon Association dedicated to restoring existing murals and bringing new public art to Downtown.

With more than 15 murals throughout the district, there’s art and history around nearly every corner. Help us preserve it and make room for what comes next by supporting the mural program through the link in our bio.

Art is taking over Downtown El Cajon. 🎨✨

On Saturday, September 12, Alley Cat Art Fest brings a full day of creativity to the streets with 50+ local artists, live music, food, handcrafted finds and more — all completely FREE to attend.

Spend the day making your way through Main Street, Magnolia Avenue, Arts Alley, Prescott Promenade and surrounding streets, where you’ll find paintings, sculptures, photography, jewelry, handcrafted goods and plenty of local talent along the way.

And don’t forget to look around while you explore — Downtown El Cajon’s murals and public art are part of the experience, too.

Grab your favorite donut, order breakfast, and don't forget to check out the legendary "wanted wall" while you're there. It's one of those little Downtown El Cajon details that always gets people talking.
