We are excited to see our MCMS Lady Hornet Softball team begin postseason play next week in the 16th District Tournament!

Metcalfe County Middle School will take on Russell County on Monday, Sept. 14, in the second game of the night at approximately 7:30.

The winner advances to the championship game on Tuesday. All games are at Monroe County High School. Admission is $7.

The Kentucky Center for School Safety will host its annual Safe Schools Week on September 14-18,

This year’s theme is Strong Roots. Safe Schools.

The goal is to raise awareness about various aspects of school safety and empower students, teachers, parents, and the wider community to take proactive steps to create a safe, nurturing learning environment for everyone.

The Metcalfe County Board of Education voted unanimously at its September meeting to set a lower tax rate for fiscal year 2026-2027, which was first proposed at the August meeting.

The new real estate tax is 51.3 cents per $100 of assessed value, down from 52.2 cents. The motor vehicle tax remains at 56.6 cents.

The Metcalfe County real estate tax has remained consistent for the past 15 years and remains in the bottom 22% statewide. Of the 171 school districts, tax rates range from 35.8 to 111.8.

Set your alarm clocks: Wednesday, September 9, is Kentucky High Attendance Day, a statewide effort encouraging students to make it to school, arrive on time, and be ready to learn.

High attendance isn’t just about one day on the calendar. Regular school attendance gives students more opportunities to stay on track academically, participate in classroom activities, and stay connected with their teachers and classmates.
