Some pretty cool Shpongle finds at the Vinyl Record Show!

We met a collector who brought along some incredible Shpongle vinyl box sets from his personal collection.

These reissues are packed with amazing artwork, and he’s now looking to pass them along to another collector. He was also lucky enough to catch Shpongle’s final live band performance at Red Rocks in 2019.

Between the music, the packaging, and the artwork, these are some seriously cool pieces for any Shpongle fan.

RARE FINDS: David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs (1974)

Did you know the original cover of David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs was censored?

The artwork shows Bowie as a half-man, half-dog creature, but apparently RCA Records wasn’t too thrilled about how anatomically correct the dog was.

The label had the artwork changed, but a small number of uncensored covers made it out into the world.

Those original copies are now seriously collectible and one of the more unusual finds in Bowie’s catalog.

Old album covers, new purpose!

We met a vendor who turns used record sleeves into handmade notebooks and sketchpads. What started as making gifts for friends and family turned into a fun retirement business.

He even shared the story of the first album he ever owned!

This one was too cool not to stop for. A colorful miniature of Paul McCartney’s iconic Magical Mystery Tour bass from A Little Guitar.

These miniature instruments are a fun little addition to any music collection, and this psychedelic McCartney bass definitely stands out.

One of the coolest things about a record show is finding something a little outside the box.

We met the inventor of the M.V.P., a clever cleaning and handling tool he came up with back in the ’70s. His wife helped sketch out his original idea, and he patented it shortly after. It can be used to handle and clean vinyl without leaving fingerprints, and it also works with CDs and DVDs.

Definitely a unique approach to taking care of a collection, and a good example of the kind of unexpected stuff you can come across at the Vinyl Record Show.

57 years ago today, Abbey Road was released in the U.S.

To celebrate, here are a few alternate shots from the iconic Abbey Road cover session, taken as The Beatles crossed back and forth over the zebra crossing before photographer Iain Macmillan captured the image that became the cover.

This collector is all Beatles.

He showed us original pressings, memorabilia, a Beatles jacket from 1973, and even a May Pang signed picture disc. Walls and Bridges is his favorite Lennon album, and John is his favorite Beatle.
