In a quiet Italian neighborhood, a retired carpenter found a creative way to help animals and bring his community together. Instead of throwing away broken chairs, cabinets, and pieces of old furniture, he began collecting the usable wood. In his small workshop, he carefully repaired and reshaped the materials into sturdy outdoor cupboards he calls “community cabinets.”

These cabinets are placed along sidewalks and near local parks where residents can easily access them. Inside, neighbors leave extra bags of pet food, small bowls, and warm blankets that anyone caring for stray animals can take when needed. Volunteers who regularly feed street cats and dogs often stop by to pick up supplies, knowing the cabinet is always open to help.

What once looked like discarded furniture has now become a shared resource for the entire neighborhood. The simple wooden cabinets quietly encourage kindness, allowing people to support local strays without needing a formal organization. Through the carpenter’s work, broken furniture has been transformed into something meaningful — a place where compassion for animals is stored and shared among neighbors.

At the start of every school year, kids would grab a brown paper grocery bag and turn it into a book cover. The paper had to be folded just right to protect the textbook all year long. Some students decorated them with drawings, band names, or doodles in the margins. It was a small ritual that marked the beginning of another school year. Those covers kept books from falling apart after months of use. It was simple, practical, and strangely satisfying. Little traditions like that are part of what makes those memories stick.

Back then, the remote control usually had legs and was the youngest person in the room. If Dad wanted the channel changed, someone had to get up and turn the k**b. There were only a handful of channels anyway, and when the antenna got fuzzy, someone had to stand there holding it just right. Somehow we survived without batteries, streaming, or a thousand choices.

Behind every great character lies a real life story, and for Shrek’s Donkey, that story belonged to Perry. This humble donkey became the real world model for one of cinema’s funniest and most lovable animated sidekicks. His quirky mannerisms, lively personality, and charm were used as inspiration to help animators bring Donkey to life, a character who stole scenes and captured the hearts of millions.

Sadly, Perry passed away this year at the remarkable age of 30. While most people may not have known his name, his legacy lives on in one of the most iconic animated films of all time. Every laugh Donkey brings to audiences around the world is, in part, thanks to Perry. From quiet pastures to the big screen, this unassuming donkey left behind a legacy that proves even the most ordinary animals can shape extraordinary stories.
