Stop by Southern Weaving today. Meet and speak with Alan Wilson.

He fully supports and understands why Greenville Pickens Speedway is so important to the community and NASCAR.

🏁🏁 Encouraging News for Greenville Pickens Speedway

A business meeting was held in Pickens County SC today between Kevin Whitaker and a potential buyer interested in purchasing and preserving Greenville Pickens Speedway.

While no agreement has been finalized, it is important to note that Kevin Whitaker is actively talking with potential buyers and working through discussions aimed at finding a path forward for the Speedway.

📍The goal of the potential buyer is simple: save the track, preserve its history, and reopen it for the community.

Today’s meeting was a positive step, and it shows that conversations about saving Greenville Pickens Speedway are very much alive. 🏁

I think it’s important to correct some misinformation here.

The petition to preserve Greenville Pickens Speedway has never asked Pickens County for money, nor has it ever asked the County to purchase the racetrack. The primary focus has always been on recognizing and preserving the speedway’s historic significance so that it is not lost forever.

We have also never said the current owner should not profit from the sale of the property. In fact, multiple nonprofits, preservation groups, and potential buyers have been actively exploring ways to save the facility while allowing the owner to be compensated fairly.

Furthermore, Greenville Pickens Speedway supporters fully support the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. This is not an either-or issue. Our community can advocate for preserving an important historic landmark while also demanding better pay, equipment, training facilities, and resources for our deputies.

As a matter of fact, if the speedway is saved and reopened, supporters have discussed making the facility available for law enforcement training and community safety programs.

Before suggesting that preserving the speedway would somehow take money away from deputies, please understand that no county funding has been requested through this petition. Those are simply not the facts.
The Sheriff’s Office deserves support. Greenville Pickens Speedway deserves a fair opportunity to be preserved. Supporting one does not require opposing the other.

We fully support and stand with the Sheriff.
