If you know Ma Craw, you already know of her awesomeness factor. :-) Here are some things that make us proud of Mom, jazzed to be around her, & extremely grateful to have her as our mom! Judi Crawford, aka "Ma Craw":

★grew up on a farm in central Iowa with 2 younger sisters
★is an enormous music fan, particularly fond of the Grateful Dead & Phish
★was the valedictorian of her class at Grinnell Hi

gh School
★forms remarkable bonds with animals, especially cats & dogs
★loves to laugh
★gardens like crazy (her favorite flowers are irises & daffodils)
★majored in French at U of Northern Iowa
★adores Paris & San Francisco
★loves birds & dragonflies
★is a life-long runner (ran her 3rd marathon just before the diagnosis)
★took up skiing at the age of 39 & camping/backpacking at 50
★loves clouds
★sometimes needs to feel the wind on her face
★used to see epic Chicago folk music with Pa Craw in the early '70s
★believes in love, tolerance, & peace

"The typing performed at the Mayo Clinic and the World Book search were reviewed at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The patient's unrelated donor search is difficult due to the absence of conserved extended haplotypes. None of the patient's HLA antigens are rare individually, but they are rarely seen together. Therefore, there are 0 possible full matches among 18 million donors compiled by the World Book. Identifying a 9/10 matched unrelated donor is only a very remote possibility."

now we know the difference between a very remote possibility & an impossibility. life lessons learned: check.

PARTIAL REMISSION, BABY!!! mom's malignant T-cells have fallen to almost zero -- a remarkably dramatic drop since her most recent labs. cause for major celebration at this point. thank you to everyone supporting us!!

mom started her chemo course a week ago & begins treatment with pentostatin tomorrow. 8-11 weeks to go. she is kicking butt! hang in there, ma craw!

it would be amazing to hear from folks deciding to register for the match! if we are able to find one, the transplant would take place sometime after she enters remission...thanks, guys.

this table in the front foyer of mom & dad's house has become symbolic of mom's path. among its messages is a reminder for us that challenge creates opportunity. mom lights the rose quartz in the back every morning.

through the changing seasons, she incorporates different holiday & seasonal decorations around a few key elements that bring her strength. the most central of her core items is a tile she made at a retreat last fall which reads: "i receive peace and acceptance of the unknown."
