The Durant Sports Festival began as a bold idea in 2023 by the Durant Parks and Recreation Department—a way to bring the community together through the power of sports and recreation. What started as a grassroots effort quickly grew into one of the region’s most exciting and inclusive summer traditions. With a mission to promote healthy lifestyles, youth engagement, and community connection, the i
naugural festival exceeded expectations and laid the foundation for a legacy event in southeast Oklahoma. The success of the first year did not go unnoticed. In 2024, the Durant Sports Festival was proudly recognized with a Programming Award from the Oklahoma Recreation and Parks Society (ORPS) for its innovative and inclusive community programming. The festival’s momentum and impact also caught national attention, leading to a featured article in Parks & Recreation Magazine, the official publication of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The article highlighted Durant’s unique approach to collaboration, accessibility, and celebration of diverse athletic offerings. Now in its second year, the 2025 Durant Sports Festival has grown into a month-long celebration, spanning May 29 through June 30. The festival includes over 30 events across 11 locations throughout Durant and features 18 unique activities such as baseball, softball, disc golf, flag football, rodeo, esports, tennis, soccer, stickball, fishing, golf, a car show, ninja warrior challenge, gymnastics, rugby, and Buddy Ball. With activities for all ages and abilities, the festival continues to emphasize not just sport—but community partnership, diversity, and the joy of coming together. Whether you’re a competitor, spectator, or supporter, the Durant Sports Festival offers something for everyone. It’s more than just an event—it’s a movement to unite the city through shared passion, local pride, and recreation that strengthens the body and spirit alike.
