Some of the best pickers we know started in a classroom. 🎻

Through Bluegrass in the Schools, the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown brings live acoustic music into local schools where students get to see a banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and upright bass up close, and hear how the music works.....and every year a few of them walk away hooked.

So what's next for those kids? Kids Pick! 🎶

It's a chance for young musicians to jam and play bluegrass music in a no-stress environment. Total beginners, kids who've been practicing in their bedroom, all of it. Everybody's welcome.

We Need YOU! The Meltdown is looking for a few new board members 🪕

If you love bluegrass and you love Durango, this is a great way to get involved. We're an all-volunteer crew that keeps this 30-year tradition running - and we could use a few more hands! 👋

What it actually involves: monthly meetings and committee work (figure about 10 hours a month, more as April gets closer), plus all-hands-on-deck during festival weekend.

What you get: a behind-the-scenes seat at the festival, a great group of people to work with, and a hand in things like Bluegrass in the Schools and supporting local pickers.

Three musicians, zero amps, and a Sunday crowd that didn't want it to end.

The Lonesome Ace Stringband's full set from the Durango Arts Center is now streaming free on the Live Music Archive - 50 minutes of old-time fire from the 30th Annual Meltdown, from "The Moon Is Down" to Woody Guthrie's "Pretty Boy Floyd" to a "Peep of Day" send-off.

John Showman, Chris Coole, and Max Malone brought it all the way from Toronto. 🎻
